Hi nah,

Sorry, I don't seem to get to the lists as much as I want to these days. I live

in Ann Arbor MI and I am sorry to say the services in MI in general aren't so

great. But if the family is

just wanting a diagnosis, there actually are a couple of folks here that are

supposed to be pretty good. Now, if they want anything to do with ABA, it gets

much sparser. Michigan is a

pretty anti-ABA place, except for good old Western Michigan in Kalamazoo. We

are trying to change this in Ann Arbor, but it's taking some time to move the

mountain, LOL.

Probably the best known diagnostician here (Ann Arbor) is Lord, who

came to University of Michigan from Chicago last year. She and her crew have a

new clinic here. She is the

designer of the ADOS and I believe the ADIR, so has seen many kids and is a very

experienced diagnostician. However, her background is TEACCH, and they do not

typically recommend ABA -

they might mention it as one thing to look into. They do NOTHING on the

treatment side, unfortunately. There is also Rick who is a pediatrician

at UM who specializes in

Greenspan/Floortime therapy. Not a great choice IMHO. Then there is Dr. Luke

Tsai, a psychiatrist at UM who has an adult autistic son. He also is strictly a

diagnostician, and I have

heard he seems keen on meds (yuk).

There is one psychologist in Oakland county who is pretty good about

recommending ABA - Dr. Ruth Anan at Beaumont Center for Human

Development. She has a behavior analyst

(master's level behavioral psychologist) on staff there to provide home ABA

program set-up and supervision. She has seen a lot of kids with autism, and is

a very helpful, caring person.

I would highly recommend her.

You can email me or have the family do so if they are interested. Also if they

are from the Ann Arbor area, I would be happy to help them out in any way I can

- we have a parent listserv

here, and support group. Also, I do my 2 home ABA programs and they are welcome

to come and observe anytime.
