Guest guest
> Here is a crude summary of the Westby play scale (Carol Westby Language, > Speech and Hearing Services in Schools Vol XI, 154-168. July 1980) Is this a journal, book, or what? I found this all really interesting. Here's where we are. My daughter is 5.5, dx Asperger's. She has a lot of play skills that she doesn't really generalize from the home. Since she was two, she's done pretend play ( " I'm the Farmer in the Dell, " while dressed in overalls and holding a cow, and no, this wasn't rote; putting jumprope on her head and saying it was braids, etc.; she now sets up elaborate scenarios w/her animals, usually modeled on something she's seen recently, e.g. acting out a puppet show or concert). She doesn't do much collaborative play. I do see problems with understanding " how " questions, sophisticated " why " ?s, cause and effect, and TOM. We've been using the Howlin book, doing some of the exercises. We do not have a program set up in the home, though we're trying to get one started (hopefully w/in the next few weeks). I'm not sure how high a priority it is, since I think conversational turn-taking is more important. Thinking out loud here, but thanks for posting about this.
