Guest guest
Simy and the list, Let me organize me and my consultant's viewpoints and share with everybody. 1) Her point: Nobody is going to ask him " What do you do with the Shirt? " in the real world. He does need to understand everything about the Shirt. So do the RFFC and FFC. Do not spend time fading the visual cues. If he can answer the question when the object is present, it is good enough. <<< My point, I also don't like the drill format of the intraverbals. BUT I always thought that this prepares him for the future conversation. AND talking about the things which are not present, it is a higher level of cognitive development>> 2) Her point: Teach him the social question with just the echoics. Personal information (ABLLS - H5) Which my son knows most of them except Address and phone#. AND the conversation questions like - " What is you favorite animal? " " What do you like to play? " << The personal information, you have to teach with the echoic prompt, mostly. BUT rest of the social question, they also sound robotic. Before we switched to VB, my son had the " Conversation Drill " in that we had the question - " what do you like to drink? - water " He could not tact the water or mand the water. He was able to just echo the word water. It was just like Jana had talked about the child T who can answer the social question but it is under the tight stimulus control >> We both have some different view points but we do agree that we need to change the current way of drilling the intraverbals. I strongly believe that only the diverse mindsets can bring the real brainstorm. The key is to be objective. We concluded that we will create the themes. I have not done that before nor did my lead therapist. Right now we will have all the mastered intraverbals. For Example - Theme of Food. We will have the toy food items. We will talk about them(Tell me some Foods). We will talk about Fridge (We store the food in the Fridge) Stove - we cook the food on it. Pretend eating the food. We buy them at the grocery store. so there are some visual cues present and some are not. If anybody has ever done this type of things please share with everybody. I have learned a lot reading these lists so please post your thoughts to the list. -Rucha [VerbalBehavior] FUNCTIONAL INTRAVERBALS - RUCHA Hello Rucha I am intrigged by what the ABA/AVB professional told you about making your intraverbals functional. I also have drilled intraverbals ...the way you have described (i.e. A shirt is something you....wear etc..) and now that your professional pointed out , I must admit that it does make sense that these are not conversation topics in a social context. Then, what examples did this professional suggest as far as making intraverbals as natural as possible and leading up to natural conversation. Can you provide some examples or can anyone else on the list do this ? Many Thanks Simy List Moderator: BurkABA@...
