Couple thoughts...

I've been happy with the Kleenscoop from Welch Allyn for wax removal -- couldn't find the product on the welch allyn site, but many of the medical supply stores have it supplied.

It is a regular specula with a little extension -- allows you to look in the ear with the otoscope (lots of light!) and grab a majority of the wax -- but there is always that wax tamped way down in there from Q-tips that nothing but good washing will remove.

Here are some supply places...

Welch Allyn KleenScoop Cerumen Removal Specula Box-100

Cerumen represents one of the obstacles in performing a complete otoscopic exam. In many patients, the offending cerumen is caused by normally occurring secretions in the outer ear canal. In these cases, a convenient and inexpensive KleenScoop specula can be used to remove the cerumen quickly and safely. Features

The KleenScoop speculum tip is compatible with any black or beige Welch Allyn otoscope. KleenScoop is designed for curettage of the outer ear canal and will reach just beyond the anterior prominence of the ear canal in patients over 10 years old. In most patients the KleenScoop will not reach the tympanic membrane.

KleenScoop™ cerumen removal speculum

===========================================

I have this system and like it, but the nurses don't. They seem to feel it takes to long and doesn't work as well as the ol' syringe and angiocath.

The cool thing about this system is that you hook it up to the sink faucet and make the water warm -- the system actually sprays water in and then sucks it out down a 2 way tube and into the sink.

The nurses also feel it uses way more water than just spraying with syringe.
