Guest guest
Ok here goes, my name is ,I have 4 beautiful children, the youngest is 3 and we just learned in june....autistic. Since then we have spent every waking moment going to doctors , getting testing, and trying to learn every possible thing about autism that we can. I attended the symposium in OKC and not only found it very valuable, but Dee and all the other women who put it together WONDERFUL!Isn't it amazing how each physician you go to gives a different degree of severity? We have finely found a wonderful team of doctors to work with from his pediatrician to his phyc. Thank God for all of these wonderful people who work with these precious children. I am one of the parents who is guilty of lurking around, but it is for a very different reason........I really didn't feel I could help anyone with anything insightful as all this is so new to us.I met quite a few of you in OKC and felt a real kinship with you all. You will never really know the things you all helped be with, and I am blessed to have met you all. ATTENTION GROUP. > > Hello everyone, I have been reading posts, and you are right Barbara. Guest guest
I introduced myself a while ago but for a reminder my name is Jenni and my son is . is 16 and I believe is AS though he has not had an official dx. attends private school after 6 years of homeschooling and is doing well. He had some problems last year and flunked two classes. This year they have assigned a teacher to him to help him and I was a bit concerned about this. Well, he is doing very well with this teacher! She has a masters in special education but did not know what AS was. So I gave her the papers on the diagnosis etc and she has been studying. She says she wants to get to know him and help him with organizing his work, etc. She has worked with him on things like eye contact. She knows he loves karate and checked out a book on karate so they can talk and become friends. I am so pleased. is about the sweetest and kindest person you can imagine. He only gets angry if he feels I am disappointed in him in some way. He can't even raise his voice. Yet he is a green belt in karate. He is strong but hates to compete. He likes to spar but not once it becomes competition. I was so worried at the beginning of the school year because he was becoming aprehensive about starting a new schedule but he is thriving in this little school. The other day my 8yo son said he saw standing against the wall looking at the floor and was worried about him. He asked his teacher if he could go hug his brother and she said of course. I love my kids (8) all being in the same little school where they can watch out for each other. I guess I just wanted to share that is AS and is about the nicest person you can imagine. Sorry to go on so long. Jenni _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
Welcome , it's nice to hear about you and your family. I'm happy you have found some good doctors to work with your child, and that this list and the people on it have helped you. You have more to offer than you think. It's always hard when you first get the diagnosis. I have 4 boys, ages 4, 5, 6, and 10 and all with autism and aspergers. It's alot to digest at first, but having good doctors does help. It took us a while, and we finally found some good doctors. I look forward to hearing more from you. If I can answer any questions, or help, email the list. There are people on this list that know alot about autism and aspergers, or you can feel free to even email me privately. I look forward to hearing more from you, Sharon(moderator)
