Guest guest
Hi everyone, Firstly, I apologise for the mass cross posting, I am just so excited and need the opinion of you all before I organise a huge celebration! lol Our son (dx autism and hyperlexia, 3.5 yrs old) has had a good day. We have been singing songs (a couple of new ones too), reading books, did some painting as well as the usual table top activites - nothing really new. I was laminating some flash cards in the kitchen when he came in and asked for his blanket. I told him where it was and he went and got it (yay! been working on that one for weeks!) and when he came back in he had it wrapped around his shoulders, he was wearing one of his sisters hats and was holding a fishing rod. He was laughing and looked at me and said " I am magic " (adapted from the Wiggles video with Magic Greg) then he said , while pointing " This is my magic hat, my magic cape and my magic wand. I am going to do some magic tricks " By this point I was hyperventilating. Could this be imaginary play? Substituting items for the real thing? How do I capitilise on this? One other thing. It is 12.30pm and he is asleep! He never sleeps during the day unless he has had a major meltdown. I am obviously in shock, I must be sleeping I just cannot believe that this has happened. Please someone burst my bubble, tell me that this means nothing or I may come to think that all the work I am doing is actually helping my baby.
