Guest guest
Hello again list, I would like to thank everyone that replied to my first post about this topic and those that replied recently. I just would like to say that I have checked out the slaw website and gathered some bits and pieces of information that will be helpful. Someone replied that slaw was an excellent resource and I would have to second that!!! The Maurice Behavior Intervention book is something I didn't think of so thank you for reminding me of it. I also have support persons that I have contacted about this and actually I only have a little over two weeks left to appeal. What I have not come across that would really help me is a sample letter. I did get copies of slaw's examples of how to write letters but I'm still nervous about writing this appeal, not including enough and saying too much. That's why I've come to the list. There are soooo many helpful, wise and smart people on this list! So again, thank you and please (ASAP) if anyone has anything they can send my way as a guide I could use it. Also, I would especially like to thank the parents that have said to me, " I' rooting for you " (etc). That makes us feel even better about the advocacy we go through for our son. To those that are dealing with simialar situations, good luck!! This entire ordeal has not been easy for ANY of us in our family nor any parents anywhere else. Sincerely, Rose Helms [ ] open enrollment appeal Hello, I am writing today because we are going to appeal to our state DPI our resident school district's decision to deny open enrollment to a nonresident school district for our son with PDD-NOS. We are suppose to give an explanation of why we believe the school boards decision was arbitrary or unreasonable. We also have the opportunity to file a brief. Initially we only need to submit a brief statement and the brief with more details will follow after the resident district sends their response. What do you suggest we include in our brief statement based on the resident district's decision of " undue financial burden " ? Something to keep in mind is that our relationship with our resident school district was adversarial and uncomfortable for our family. AS a result of that we decided to withdraw our son from our resident district an homeschool him. We feel the resident's decision was not soley based on " financial burden " . Any advice, suggestions, tips or sample letters would be GREATLY appreciated! Sincerely, and Rose Helms List moderators: ABAqueen1@... Stephhulshof@...
