Guest guest Posted April 1, 2002 Report Share Posted April 1, 2002 Perhaps you could try one of 2 things... 1) Be Pro Active.. and avoid the stim by blocking the view of the open and closing of the door and engaging the child in a " conversation " or point out something appropriate...And reinforce when he isnt breaking his neck to see a door close behind him 2) when there is nothing to compete with this reinforcing passtime..turn it into a Learning Experience.. " The door is OPEN..NOW the door is ______.. WHat is the door? OPEN..and now? CLOSED.. What color is this door?Whose/What room is this? Lets KNOCK on the door. Knock 3 times.. How many times did I knock... " The door is WOOD, what is the door made out of... " In due time to the child it ends up loosing it's STIM value and it simply just isnt worth it when you add all these questions about the door.. It would be like " satiatiating " this reinforcment ...
