Define Non Verbal?

babbles/talks alot.. but we can not understand her most of the time. I know what she wants from spending so much time with her.

has about 50 signs - most she will do on imitation ( she will imitate just about anything) . Ya know but she NEVER asks to brush her teeth or fold washrags :)

She does alot of that " ARRR" scream too. Its just easier to do. But she will ask for her sippy ( pees pees Zippy Zippy)

Or " Pees pees boo " she asks for her book while signing the word read . She will also smack herself in the head if she is frustrated. I think some of that is " normal" two yr old frustration. And he is a boy.. so he won't be as chatty as the girls. BUT.. not trying to belittle it.. just soothe a concern.

She will be 3 in Sept. Her friend is about at the same level speech wise. In their EI group they are considered " doing well " for their verbal and signed expression. ...I guess it just depends on the speech therapist group etc. Just keep working with your son. I really like Signing times.. I thought that Love and learning was for reading. But.. I guess I better get my self moving and order some of those too. Time flies.. she is nearly three

And its not like I am trying to compare. But we meet regularly with a group of about ten to 15 children all about the same age with DS. It does not sound like your feller is very far behind and Sam. And he sounds alot more verbal than the boys I know that are his age. Again not trying to compare.. just saying it sounds like he is doing better than you think. Just keep up the work and the ideas ( like your doing) don't let your ST get you down or discourage you.

Sam watches a signing time about 3/4 times a day. We try to do a sign for things as well as talking. I might tell her its time to go home.. but sign Time Go Home.

Love and Learning is recommended by Doc Bonnie at the Children's Hospital of Cincinnati Ohio.. and she works with the Down Syndrome center.
