I don't know if this is an ABA question per se, but you all have been so

knowledgeable and generous when I have asked questions that I'll throw it out to

you. My 5-year-old daughter was evaluated in Oct. and received a dx of

Asperger's. When evaluated w/the Wechsler, her greatest intellectual weaknesses

were in Comprehension (9th %), Object Assembly (9th% again) and Geometric Design

(5th %). I'm not even sure what these last two things are, let alone how to

address them. I gather the latter two are related to executive function. I've

already tried doing visualizing with her, and she generally does okay. How do I

work on these skills? There are a lot of other areas to address as well, but I

was kind of dismayed when I saw these scores. And ITO comprehension, yes, I've

tried working with her as we read to check comprehension, but so far I don't see

tremendous improvement.

She's in a sped. kindy right now, and I'm trying to get a home-based program

started. In the meantime, I've tried running some programs on my own, and I

can't help notice that when I worked with her, skills that were previously

nonexistent suddenly came in (tracing mazes, connecting dots--she couldn't do

these at all, and suddenly she was up to age level, and ditto for doing

puzzles). So I want to keep working with her while I'm waiting to get this

program set up, but I don't know how to work on the performance skills.

Any advice? I know the social aspects are much more importance with Asperger's,

and I'm addressing those too, but her cognitive skills can I think be an area of

strength (in short, I think she's much smarter than she's ever received credit

for, and she picks things up very nicely when they're taught to her. So I want

to make sure they're taught to her :-D).
