Pedro,

I have access to UTD the same way, only the hospital intranet.

I find myself looking up something every time I go to hospital now. I

heard they won’t discount subscriptions, ever. But a good text

costs as much and this is more available. I am thinking I will get it.

Thanks!

Do you have a personal subscription?

Do you think the expense is worth it? For the CME?

I personally regard it as a superb resource, I have access through my hospitals

and wonder if I should invest in it for my personal use (the hospital access is

only through their intranet).

Gordon,

Weren't you talking to Up To Date for a group rate for IMP's at some point?

Someone on the list was checking into that

but I don’t recall who…

I like the idea of getting it free through

a med school or med staff library (that’s how I’ve gotten lots of

good on line resources)

someone should seize the opportunity to create a medical version of

wikipedia .... free information for everyone.

Get cme credits for writing up stuff ....

There must be a fair bit of collective wisdom in this group??

I believe " Dynamed " , started by an F.P., Alper, is a bit like

that. If you contribute to it as an author or do reviews, they will

give you a free subscription. It's kind of similar to UptoDate.

I've had a quick look at medpedia and it looks very interesting.

Pity it's on the wikipedia platform ... but such is life.

I decided to register and then realized when they wanted a photo I was

applying to be an editor ... so pulled out of the registration.

But looks like they registered me anyway :(

These look very interesting. Haven't had time to look them over yet,

but I was wondering if anybody knows if any med schools have put their

coursework on-line like MIT has done. You can look at almost any

course MIT has on-line in several formats, youtube, realplayer etc.

It's amazing. I was looking at the introductory physics course by

Prof. Walter Lewin. It's really fun when you can listen to the

lectures and just take in what you want and don't have to worry about

the math.

I wonder if any Med schools with huge endowments behind them would

have the guts to put all their stuff on-line like MIT. It seems like

there is a trend to go the other way, with the AAFP turning their

Practice Management magazine into a paid subscription.

Went to me medical school 20 yr reunion last year, and at Temple in Philly, they have all the lectures available on podcast or online, and every student gets a laptap. Don't know if they are available to the public. Personally this would have completely eliminated for me any reason to go to class other than labs.
