A New School For Children with Autism

To all parents of children with Autism and related disorders:

We are all aware of the need for one-on-one therapy programs for our autistic

children. Currently, the only option for our children in Atlanta is

home-based programs. We are proposing a school, in which our children receive

ABA and or ABA/Verbal manding therapy sessions, in addition to supplemental

educational opportunities, group play, field trips and eventually

facilitation when ready for mainstream school. In our school, the children

will attend half or full days, depending on age, need and schedule; with

morning and afternoon therapy sessions available.

Having such a school program will alleviate many of the hassles and

shortcomings of home-based programs for all involved. The school will have

all the supplies that our children's programs require, eliminating delay and

cost of setting up new programs as they progress. Children will not miss

their scheduled therapy sessions due to therapists' absence, illness, or

vacation. Weekly staff meetings will ensure that all staff are up to speed on

each student's progress and brainstorming when challenges arise. The more

minds working together, the better for our children. The costs of the monthly

consultation will be part of the tuition, and with fundraising and

anticipated corporate sponsors, we hope the tuition will be a fraction of the

cost of a home-based program. Additionally, our children will not be isolated

at home. They will have play time and activities with other children every

day. Parents will have a support network and the school will offer

educational speakers and updates on the latest research to help our children.

In order to develop a school program to best serve our children, we will need

to assess their needs insofar as therapy method(s), age, diagnosis, location,

and schedule. We appreciate your participation in this survey. Please pass
