In relation to what NEUROLYMEN (Jane?) said: I was there at the OPMC, and i

am still wondering why CNN didn't even want to come downstairs and step out

front to see what was going on.

It's as tho they have very specific instructions to stay away from this. Am

I paranoid?

crazy? self-absorbed? I really don't believe they have hands-off

orders--but I do wonder. That was really strange. Especially when a few

reporters came out, took their time loading photo equipment and wouldn't take

a pic. Weird.

joan.....

i had the chance to talk to some of the people(photographers) that u

saw......they are freelancers....not employees of cnn.....the only get paid

to shhot wha they are instructed to shoot.....or can sell to an interested

news out let......with the mta strike and the other protest going on that day

we just were not news........even if we had a thousand people we would not

have made a dent against the mta....plus transportation is a huge issue in

NYC.......so we lost out due to other protest.......but we did make an

impreesion on many and educated some enw yorkers about lyme...they thought

they did not have to worry ....one guy was going to central park for

lunch....when we told him a mouse is one of the big carriers of deer ticks

his face fell.......plus that rally was not so much about awareness as doc

orens......and for him we did get the point accross to the opmc ......as our

letters are continuing to do....thru my dealings with ssd i found that

agencies like the opmc and ss hate to have politicians questioning

them........my congressmans office would call ss every other day to inquire

on my case.....finally ss just took care of it so they were not ???everyother

day.......they don't like anyone upsetting their applecart...

Hey Everyone,, (waving :)

I was interested to read about the non verbal and

almost non verbal kids, This is one of the most

frustrating things with my daughter... or at least it

was untill I just gave up worrying about it,, :)

Alysha has always been able to speak but she can not

or will not speak in sentences unless I have her

repeat a sentence back to me... like " Mom may I have

some more juice please? " but she can only repeat one

word at a time after I do... and then I try to have

her put the whole thing together... but she usually

leaves out a few words.. it comes out : Mom, more

juice please? " which is great! then the next time

she will just say " juice " and maybe a please.. I

got to the point where working with her on speaking in

sentences obviousliy was not going to work, and it was

frustrating for her also... she uses some signs and

has always been able to make her needs very well

known,, heheh When she has a hard time with a word

and I don't understand what she wants we will work on

it till I do decipher the word and then something

that has helped Alysha to grasp the proper way to say

it is to take her hand and lay it palm side to my

lips and say the word over and over about 6 or seven

times.she not only sees but feels the way my lips and

mouth work and she is able to say the word more

clearly. But is does not seem to stay in the memory

bank very long and we have certain words that we go

over time after time... I make a game out of it and

she seems to enjoy getting the word right!

But here is a really weird thing that she does every

one in awhile .... she will rattle off a sentence as

plain as day not a problem understanding her,, and it

shocks the pee wadding right out of her Dad and I ...

giggle the last time this happened was the other day

I had swallowed a sip of coffee the wrong way and was

coughing and sputtering for a few moments and she said

in a loud clear voice,, " Honey <she calls me honey

alot> " Honey! are you alright? Don't Choke ok? " Now

if I asked her to say that again she would more then

likely not be able to do it,, just one of the things

that tickles me about her,,, :)

Hi Cat,

I too , go about the same way repeating words , sentences for

with little signing . Last summer though , his private speech

therapist said it was alot for him to grasp , whenever I said alot or

show him alot of pictures . I also had to work on the Sensory

Therapy . Because sometimes words, items, & pictures could be in

front and they see it and can hear you . But their brains were not

grasping it . His behavior would not allow him to work, too . What

the ST had noticed from for a kid with Downs , when he wanted

to , his words would come out loud and clear . Alot of mimic , loved

hearing music and songs . The ST had adviced me to cut out ads and

glue it to index cards. Start with food , give him 2 choices and had

to tell me what he wanted to eat depending on our menu . It has

worked for him . This year I do hear more words and the latter part

of last school , I was told he was talking alot. That I know was due

to learning about him having ASD. Which had guided me in the right

direction for answers . Thanks to everybody on this e-group list,

too . Then of course researching . Behavior has calm down , the

dietary supplements has helped his brain function better , as it has

helped with speech & eating (my belief) , working on other challenges

at this time , though . Back to repeating sentences or just words ,

when there was time I would record us . Even during some simple

reading time , playing cards with Alphabets , colors, & numbers . He

just loves it , as he hears himself or my yucking voice . Even his

dad recorded a Lennon song , SOMETHING like " Now Its Time To Go

To Sleep " , don't know the correct title , with his voice . His dad

travels alot , so when he misses him , he could listen to his dad's

voice at bedtime . Of course it all depends with what mood he is in .

Our kids are just full of surprises when THEY WANT to talk . Alysha

was just too cute , HONEY . Take Care .

Irma , 13,DS/ASD.

I didn't know this website was to express religious beliefs, political views,

or the evils of salmon manufacturing. Freedom of speech is one thing,

however, there are other websites for these views. I subsribed to this site

to learn more about how to cleanse my body. Why are we so off track the

subject???

Shop Carts: When my husband and I go to the store we take a normal

grocery cart and when we get to the cashier they take all the stuff out

for us. How hard is it to ask someone for help. Another thing is when we

go to our local grocery store they know us so well that they even got us

a step stole for us to take around the store so we can reach stuff on the

top shelves. Also another thing we do is my mom (Frieda Valuckas) make

these dressing sticks and what we use it for is also to reach stuff off

the top shelves and also to reach thing out of our baskets. These sticks

that she make you can us it for anything that you cant reach. Thank you

for attention. ncsmowery@...

" I am focusing on the Carbone Method "

IT is still Applied Behavior Analysis. with the focus on the analysis of

Verbal Behavior written by B.F.Skinner. There is no difference between AVB

and ABA. Everything stems from Skinner and as a student it is important for

you to know this before you become a professional. Too many people think that

there is " this method or that method " . What is important is for you to

develop a strong understanding of the experimental analysis of behavior and

the applied analysis of behavior. That will make you a well rounded clinician

and scientist. Don't let anyone ever tell you that there is a difference.

Good luck in your pursuit. But remember what I told you.

Just a thought form a Behavior Analyst.

That is right and here a some other educational methods derived from ABA

and they are all cousins:

Direct Instruction

Precision Teaching

Methetics

and of course

Discrete Trials

All Skinner spin-offs.

methetics is teaching using a particular error correcting procedure much

like Carbone uses and the script in the Direct Instruction

curriculums. When a student answers incorrectly, the instructor will say

something like:

My turn: correct response

Your turn: wait for response.

and then go back and forth, until the response is correct. Sometimes you

have to do more than this to end the error pattern like do a discrimination

correction. For example, if the student says " red " when you hold up

" blue " , you can place red and blue side by side and ask for the student to

point to the " blue " and correct.

At the Direct Instruction language for learning seminar I took the error

correction that they told us to use goes like this:

" Listen, my turn " (say correct response)

" Your turn, say it with me " (both you and students say correct response)

" Your turn, get ready " (student says correct response)

" Yes (the teacher now says the correct response) " an affirmation of the

student's response

" Okay, now since someone made a mistake lets try it again " (repeat until

firm RUF)

Then go back the next time you do it and test again.

These are methetics corrections procedures. I may be wrong, but that is

what I perceive it is. Farbrizio only described it to us, we did

not get a handout on it, but that is about it.

Subject: RE: Re: update

RE: Doctor listed on the national testosterone awareness website

Would be interested to see how this guy works out (if you do contact

him). I have considered going that same route (if the Endo that I've

been referred to doesn't work out). There were none listed (on their web

page) in my immediate county but a few in the adjacent county

(Cleveland, OH), so that might be an option for me. One I hope not to

have to use, but you know how that goes!

Please keep us advised as to how that works out (i.e., is that Doc

knowledgeable or just drumming up business).

Thanks.
