Hi,

I have had luck with the following strategies:

a.. Have him wear a pull-up, stand at the sink and play in water (if of

course this would be a fun thing to do), wait until that pullup turns

yellow....and then praise the heck out of him...eventually turn off the supply

of the water and have him sit on the toilet while playing in a bucket of warm

water, eventually fade the pull up away by cutting it....until no more pull up.

b.. Make it fun and put fruit loops or a target in your toilet to have him

aim for (you might be able to catch him when he drops his drawers and rush him

into the bathroom to " shoot the target! "

c.. Only give him the pull up for BM in the bathroom.....make it a

routine..1. he says " i want pants " , 2. you respond with " go to the toilet " 3.

Once in there, put the pull up on and have him sit to BM. You might have to

work towards sitting on the toilet, you can make it acceptable that he stand in

the bathroom to BM until he gets more comfortable with it. Again with this, you

can cut away at the pull up to make it so the BM will go right through and into

the toilet.

d.. Every time he does make a messy pull up, take him with you into the

bathroom and make him watch you dump it into the toilet.......explain in words

he might understand that BM goes in there and let him flush and say goodbye

(unless of course the flushing sound or vision bothers him)

e.. Bring in the TV! Make him sit on the toilet for TV.

f.. Have male family members demonstrate how it's supposed to be done. Good

luck finding a volunteer though!

g.. Write him a social story about how to go potty on the toilet.

That's about all I can think of right now.

Hope this helps!
