It was a time will tell sort of thing. I did go back, and got the wonderful

answer from her that we don¹t have to diagnose him until he¹s seven, so

we¹re not going to. I wanted to strangle her when she sent records to my

new Dev. Ped.in NY saying what she wouldn¹t tell me after his second

visit‹suspected Autism. I am not sure verbal auditory agnosia is a separate

manifestation of autism. I think, rather, that it signifies the level of

sensory filtering/selective attention impairment. I wouldn¹t start thinking

of it as anything separate, but knowing his deficits are intense as far as

selective attention to speech, I would really hammer the auditory piece‹make

sure you don¹t give anything without naming it first. Do you put the

reinforcers next to your mouth as you name them to help draw attention to

your face movement? Do you keep your speech succinct and pointed so he

doesn¹t have a lot to filter? The less you sound like background noise

(e.g. Talking too much) the better. Will he echo? Hmmm. Our kids are so

fascinating. Best of luck‹the Koegel¹s have a lot of nice stuff written

about selective attention‹it is one of their pivotal behaviors that may

interest you. t
