We taught What is that? and Who is that? basically the same way you described. We taught him to discriminate between them by mixing known and unknown objects with known and unknown people (we used oddball occupation cards) all in one long line of cards on the table. At one point we also added in " What's that word? " because it was a mand he wanted to use (he was reading some and very interested in new words), but had trouble discriminating with the three similar mands. So then he had known and unknown things, people, and words all mixed together. With errorless teaching and quick prompt fading he got them all and now uses them all in the natural environment.
