Guest guest
I want to be the first to congratulate you for making the connection between good nutrition and the healing of injuries. I also want to run interference in order to make sure this site isn't used to diagnose or to give medical advice, it's oh so easy to get OT. Members are standing by to throw out medical advice but it's crucial for you to get to a professional and holistic healer. A " knee issue " is never really about the knee. We have a HUGE DATABASE for the holistic doctors we recommend and every single one incorporates nutrition and metaphysics. Lots of us have rebuilt joint cartilage using all the common nutriceuticals and good healing foods such as the bone broths. You will also find FILE and DATABASE information about using the herbs, vitamins, minerals and nutriceuticals (glucosamine, condroitin sulfate, MSM, and many others). Be sure to read the knee section of LOUISE HAY's brilliant book, " Metaphysical Causation of Illness " . Your body is speaking to you. Guest guest
I had experience in knee rehab with dogs, also work with children who have cerebral palsy and joint issues. Then a few years ago, injured my own knee. My experience is that knees take a LONG time to heal, meaning six weeks or more in some cases. Need to let the knee heal up completely so you don¹t re-injure. Pain is your FRIEND, tells you when to take it easy. Once healed, the trick is to build up the quads. I used glucosamine with dogs for years. I added MSM if there was pain. Some dogs with joint disorders didn¹t respond to plain glucosamine, but did respond to a supplement with added boron. It usually takes four to six WEEKS to see a difference in a dog. Since I started making extra bone broth for my senior dogs, I have not needed to buy extra glucosamine. I am sold on bone broth and my husband and I drink plenty as we age ourselves. These are all things to try, but you really need to get an osteopath, chiropractor, therapist, someone, to mentor you on what to take, when to rest the joint, when exercise is beneficial and how much. A common mistake is to go to fast. It was about 4 years ago that a friendly rescued dog bounced into my knee just the wrong way. I went down, was in a wheelchair for a couple weeks. I later used crutches. Once the knee was totally recovered with above mentioned things, I was left with a weak knee. I finally found a mentor who explained the quad part. Uphill walking worked for me since I enjoyed nature. Knee problems don¹t get fixed fast IMHO, but today, I can¹t tell a difference between the right and left knee. I¹d call that a cure. Guest guest
Thanks, Kathy. Great advice. I am concerned the physical therapist wanted too much exercise too fast; so I'm listening to my inner wisdom to let the knee rest before building quads (as you said). Every time I have gotten more agressive with exercise, it's hurting badly again. The PT did say behind the knee cap is one of the slowest healers of the whole body. She expects this will take six months--not six weeks. Phoned Herb Pharm and spoke with , their in-house herbalist. He likes Trauma Oil, Trauma Drops, Lightning spray, Connective Tissue Tonic compound, Arnica, etc. Will try to rotate those until I can sort out who/what/where for holistic treatment. Submerging knee in bath daily for compression and to help discharge lymph. I will read the lit Will suggested and check out files/healers. Thanks so much, everyone. co > > > > > > > > > Hello, Trad-foodians! > > > > Have a knee injury. Please advise best ways to rebuild cartilage. > > Bursa is bruised, also. Guest guest
I think I have posted my knee experience here before but - About 15 years ago in the winter I slid down some large hay bales and caught my right boot on the way down. At the knee my leg bent to the right so the lower half of my leg was folded against the upper half. I used my hands to straighten my leg and took a couple of steps, I crawled the rest of the way back to the truck and drove to the house. I was in REAL pain. I icepacked it for a couple hours, applied DMSO, ice pack, DMSO for several hours, then applied liquid vitamin E to pads and wrapped them on the knee. I treated it like a break. Stan got me crutches and I did not walk on it for six weeks. I did no therapy or exercise during that six weeks, I did not get it x-rayed, I did not go to the doctor. I kept up the icepack, DMSO for several days. When the pain got bad again after a couple of hours I renewed the vitamin E. I kept the DMSO and vitamin E for the whole six weeks and anytime after that when it hurt. I never even had a bruise. I do not have any problems with that knee. Stan ripped his shoulder a couple of months ago and could not even lift his arm. We went to the doctor who said maybe bicep tendon maybe rotor cuff but he should start therapy right away and gave him some exercises; said something about maybe surgery later on. Stan felt he should not use it but for the first couple of days tried the doctors advice. The injury started to hemmorage internally and he ended up with bruising from shoulder to below the elbow. We stopped excercise and went to the rest, icepack, DMSO and vitamin E routine. It is healing, he can raise his arm pretty good but he does not lift much with it yet. Because we are WAP we always do bone broths, CLO and fats. What works best? You have to judge your own body. June
