Guest guest
I heard recently that someone had been requesting information about the " Carbone Method " on this list. I thought I would take this as an another opportunity to continue to dispel the myth that there is a " Carbone Method " . Those who have attended my trainings know that for years I have been discouraging the use of that term and would therefore like to reiterate that through this forum. What does exist is a set of principles of learning that have been empirically verified through the experimental analysis of behavior and when those principles are applied to the teaching of socially significant skills we call that Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Moreover, this experimental method has provided us with a long list of teaching procedures. During my trainings I demonstrate and discuss the benefits of these experimentally verified methods to increase the verbal behavior and others skills of children with autism. These methods are NOT mine, I am merely describing their clinical application. They are part of a conceptually systematic science from which they have been derived. No one owns them and shouldn't claim them as theirs. I urge both professionals and parents to discourage the use of the term " Carbone Method " whenever they hear it. Our technology of teaching is strengthened and our ability to help children is enhanced when our scientific methods are not attributed to unique characteristics of any one person or group.
