I had a consultant from WEAP and when we first began (early 2000) it was a very

traditional Lovass approach. In the fall of 2000 I went to a Carbone conference

and came home very excited about the ABBLS and verbal behavior. At about this

same time WEAP had Dr. Carbone present at their Madison clinic and my consultant

was also very excited about VB and we soon after implented more VB in my son's

program.

I think the enthusiasm for VB varied from consultant-to-consultant. Two other

families in my area, were also using WEAP, but no VB. I don't know if these

families ever asked for it and remember that was back in 2000 and many people

did not know about VB. I think WEAP tries to maintain very individualized

programs addressing the needs of each child. Some families used PECS/ some did

not and some used sign/ some did not. I believe that if you let them know that

you wanted VB they would be sure to give you a consultant with experience in

this area.

We'd like to ask other people's experience with consultants from the Wisconsin

Early Autism Project (WEAP). We were told that some of their consultants have

some training on Verbal Behavior. WEAP is a Lovaas replication site - and we

wonder how much VB is incorporated into their curriculum. Do they use the ABBLS

book? Please respond privately to ambolossy@...
