Guest guest
Hello, I am a speech teacher and have a question, please bear with me because I know I tend to ramble. I was seeing Jake (2 1/2 years old) privately for one hour a week. He was evaluated by a local agency in Central Jersey and granted 1 hour of Speech and 1 hour of O.T. Because they could not start services right away, Jake's mom (Mindy) had me come in until the Speech Pathologist from the agency could start seeing him. I actually stopped seeing Jake this past Monday. Jake was diagnosed yesterday with autism by a neurologist. When Mindy heard this, she immediately called the agency and told them. They told her she could not get any more therapy time for him and that she should continue to pay me to see him. My question is this: Isn't Jake entitled to more therapy, especially now since he has a diagnosis? Is the agency not granting him more time because of his age? Can anyone tell me an agency or name of someone that I can give to Mindy so that she can get him started in a program? I work for the NYC Board of Education and so I am not up to date on what she is entitled to or even whom to contact. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at barbdave@... or Mindy at jazziecat@... Thank you so much!!! Barbara
