Guest guest
Creeping charlie is one of those easily identifiable plants like dandelions and mustard that have been labeled " evil plants " and targeted by pesticide companies. There is nothing dangerous about creeping charlie and dandelions are quite beneficial to ladybugs, birds and ourselves as food. Creeping charlie and dandelions are symptons of a nutritional imbalance in the soil. Find a 50# sack of feed grade calcium carbonate at your local feed store or grain elevator. Apply it at the rate of 200#/acre, it is not toxic so you don't have to be exact about its application. Where you have creeping charlie take a potato fork, push it into the ground as deep as possible and wiggle it a little, do this every 4-6 " to aeriate the soil. Then sprinkle about 1/4 cup 20 Mule Team borax per square yard [borax also works for ants, sprinkle it on the hills].
Guest guest
Fix the soil, don't kill the weed! Easily one of the best answers ever given to a common question. A tip of the SMART HAT to JUNE! We have farmers who just can't think outside the box, when they see a weed, they start hunting for a POISON to kill it! I'll be visiting a so-called organic or natural farm and all those fencerows are BROWN with dead, poisoned weeds. The dealers swear their ROUND-UP is totally safe, blah blah blah! It's NOT! Over 10% of all the weed poisons in the world are put on YARDS in America! Now GOLF COURSES are one of the worst biohazards that exist, just short of walking through Chernoble. We made up some SKULL AND CROSSBONES signs that we replace the Chem Lawn signs with on our neighborhood walks. Below the Skull, the signs say: " Thanks for poisoning our children, our pets, our world! Why? I'm trying to find nicer signs that might educate the poisoners but I'm just plain mad when I see it. We have a very pretty yard and no poisons (or even any power tools) have been used on it for over 25 years!! Plus, we get our exercise being out there working on it.
