Guest guest
I have used a number of functional reading programs but the one that I often come back to is by Oelwein, Teaching Reading to Children with Down Syndrome. It is loosely based on behavioural principles and targets initial vocabulary that is highly motivating to the child. It is also a sight-based program. There have been many successes when used with the ASD population. It is labour intensive in that all materials must be custom made (tailored to the child). --Tracie
