--SAY GOODBYE TO WRAPAROUND

Never mind income level, diagnosis or severity of

need, the Pennsylvania

Department of Public Welfare (DPW) may say goodbye to

kids with autism,

mental retardation, ADHD, cerebral palsy and other

behavioral health needs.

Without legislative action or a governor’s

signature, a few computer

keystrokes could eliminate TSS, Behavioral Specialist

and other wraparound

services, which keep kids in their communities and out

of institutions. The

bureaucratic definitions which guide who gets these

services are being

changed. And if your child has any of the above

needs, wraparound days are

numbered.

Saying goodbye to wraparound for these kids is like

telling them to pack

their bags and get out because these children can’t

get services anywhere

else:

Þ Commercial insurance says, " not covered "

Þ Waiver systems for the mentally retarded say " wait "

Þ Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and other disability

systems say " move out " because

these departments exist in almost every other state,

but not in Pennsylvania

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

¨ Attend the April 9 " Pack Your Bags, Kids " Rally in

burg Capital

Rotunda at 2:30 p.m. Buses will be provided in the

Philadelphia area. To

your child’s name in large

letters on the side.

¨ Wear a picture of your child on your lapel or

shirt.

help the advocacy cause,

on finding your legislators and educating them.
