Guest guest
If anyone here thinks a change of administration will actually change industry-fed, revolving door governmental regulatory agencies such as the USDA, FDA, and EPA in a way that will actually convert them from industry hacks into functional organizations that truly protect the American public... don't hold your breath! Each new presidential candidate comes in with high hopes and promises, but that's all before they hit the MEAT GRINDER. Furthermore, I believe that the best political change of all comes from our actions. People acting to empower themselves, to eat well, to raise their children to be smart and healthy. As we continue our buying clubs, and as we continue to support and patronize holistic doctors, sustainable food restaurants, local farmer's, farmer's markets, and growing our own food in gardens and beyond, we truly empower ourselves and, as a result change the country in which we live. That's called Real Change. When brilliant writers like MICHAEL POLLAN come in with a direct strike into the vulnerable belly of agri-biz, things change. Guest guest
That is almost exactly the response I sent to the OP. Curious what stance Obama has taken on this issue? Does he actually claim to care about fake chemicals in our food? Has he promised to appoint a commissioner who will attack the food industry at it's core? This whole thing is about as deeply seeded as the Slave trade was to the British in the 1700's. Many of those IN politics simply have too many political hands in the bucket to want to make changes that would financially affect them in the long run. Obama may claim change- but the proof is in the pudding. He has as much political interest as the next guy (I am not saying McCain or Bush are any better). The problems cannot be changed from the top down, IMO- it needs to be changed from the bottom up. When the people stop buying the crap then the companies will stop producing it. ;0) Meg True Political Change If anyone here thinks a change of administration will actually change industry-fed, revolving door governmental regulatory agencies such as the USDA, FDA, and EPA in a way that will actually convert them from industry hacks into functional organizations that truly protect the American public... don't hold your breath!
