Guest guest
, I have not done it yet, but will likely start in the next couple of months. I have not been entirely happy with surescripts, but we do have it working. It does seem to take more time than it saves, but that is more associated with the surescripts side than the e-MDs side. seeking e-MDs patient portal experiences Is anyone using it? What do you think of it? What works well, does not work well? (An e-MDs first generation product scares me-- it has taken them 7 months and they still haven't figured out how to get us SureScripts) Is it worth the money? How difficult is set-up/ maintenance-- does it have tons of glitches? I'd be really greatful for any feedback. Thanks,

Guest guest
, I love the concept of e-prescribing, but the concept of seamless flow from the emr to the pharmacy is not there…yet. Why? 1) No schedule 2 drugs can be sent over surescripts. So many times I can send some of my patient’s prescriptions but I still need to print out one or two and have the patient hand carry these. My understanding is that this will change in the next year, but for right now this one point makes implementation into an office piecemeal at best. 2) The interface between the pharmacy/surescripts and e-mds is good, but a lot of linking has to be done. So, when you receive a rxn request from the pharmacy, you may have to first link it to a patient (if there is any difference in the name of the patient from the pharmacy) and then you have to link it to the right medication (because generics do not match up with name brands). I can only imagine the linking will get better the more it is used, but I would say about 40-50% of my incoming rxn requests need to be linked up. Although fairly intuitive, this does take time. I would think as I move to the patient portal and the patient just e-mails the request, we would save a lot of time (as we save the phone call to the office, the taking of the message, the filling of the prescription and the calling of the patient back by using a couple of keystrokes), but I have not used this yet and don’t know all the functionality. The good news is that e-MDs is well aware that the patient portal is the most important advance they need to focus on right now and I bet it will be quite wonderful in the next year or two. The question is whether to wait for it to be perfected before implementing it into our offices, or do it now under the assumption it will be perfected. Guest guest
This is a little odd. If they're requesting a repeat .... they should be sending it exactly back as your original now expired script. And they should be using the patient details as you provided them. If they're asking for a generic vs brand that you prescribed .. that's not a repeat, but a change rx request. If not, sounds like the pharmacy has a bug with their software. You can always deny all of these requests, and just issue a new script instead to save all the hassles. Anyway, this is my reading of the Surescripts implementation guides. I would take it up with emds to complain ... and see if they can escalate the issue as these type of problems should not happen.
