Guest guest
Does the Special Enrollment Period (described below from the Medicare web site) only apply if a patient never took Medicare B and not if they had it for a short period of time and dropped it as they have commercial insurance? When a Special Enrollment Period Can Occur If you didn’t take Medicare Part B when you were first eligible because you or your spouse were working and had group health plan coverage through your or your spouse’s employer or union, you can sign up for Medicare Part B during a Special Enrollment Period. You can sign up: Anytime you are still covered by the employer or union group health plan through your or your spouse’s current or active employment, or During the 8 months following the month the employer or union group health plan coverage ends, or when the employment ends (whichever is first). If you are disabled and working (or you have coverage from a working family member), the Special Enrollment Period rules also apply Daryl Battin, LICSW Financial Coordinator/Social Worker Lahey Clinic -- KidneyTransplant 41 Mall Road Burlington, MA 01805 PH: /FAX: Applying for Medicare Part B I am sure this will seem like a silly question but in the last 7 years I have never once had to apply for just part B coverage. The patient has A and evidently stopped paying B and it was cancelled . She was recently transplanted and now she needs to get back B. Do I just fill out the 2728 form or is there something else that needs completed? Thanks goodness she does have a commercial insurance too.
