Guest guest
1) A Medicare bonus AND completing a part IV ? Please tell more! 2) I just started eprescribing so am trying to figure out how to report it to Medicare to get THAT 2% bonus. They tell you to report one of three G codes, but I can’t figure out when to report it; I mean I don’t fill out a HCFA form everytime I do rx refills, so what am I supposed to do? Or does it mean I have to remember to add it to the next visit’s bill to Medicare, or only report those done with an office visit or ??? The Medicare site isn’t clear enough for me. Has anyone figured this out? 3) I have my EMR doing eprescibing but it doesn’t qualify for NC’s BCBS reward of $1000 if I prescribe for 20 patients by the end of the year. Apparently NextGen isn’t ‘something-or-other’ qualified. So I have signed up on BCBS’s website for their ‘free’ allscripts version and hand entered 20 patients and did their refills so I could get the bonus. Their program is free and easy to use, it just doesn’t mesh with my EMR so can’t look up when I refilled something last. Tonya S. Little, MD Tonya S. Guest guest
THE CENTER FOR MEDICARE AND MEDICAID SERVICES APPROVES AMERICAN BOARD OF FAMILY MEDICINE REGISTRY FOR THE PHYSICIAN QUALITY REPORTING INITIATIVE (PQRI) The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced its approval today of the ABFM Performance in Practice Registry as one of 32 qualified registries that may submit PQRI data to CMS on behalf of its Diplomates (http://www.cms.hhs.gov/PQRI/Downloads/PQRIQualifiedRegistries.pdf). The Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 (MMSEA), enacted on December 29, 2007, authorized CMS to make PQRI incentive payments for satisfactory reporting of quality measures data in 2008. It also established alternative reporting periods and criteria for the reporting of measure groups and for the reporting of PQRI quality measures through an approved clinical data registry. Beginning in September, ABFM Diplomates may use the Diabetes Module developed specifically for this purpose by the ABFM to collect and submit data to the Registry on a set of either 30 or 15 consecutive patients with either Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. Not all patients in these samples must be Medicare patients, but at least two Medicare Part B beneficiaries must be included in the Diplomate's sample. For 2008, physicians who meet the criteria for satisfactory submission of quality measures data for 30 consecutive patients will earn an incentive payment of 1.5 percent of their total allowed charges for Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) covered professional services furnished during the reporting period, January 1, 2008 – December 31, 2008 (the 2008 calendar year). Alternatively, those physicians who meet the criteria for satisfactory submission of quality measures data for 15 consecutive patients will earn an incentive payment of 1.5 percent of their total allowed charges for PFS covered professional services furnished during the reporting period, July 1, 2008 – December 31, 2008. CMS approved financial incentives earned for 2008 reporting are scheduled to be paid in mid-2009 from the Federal Supplementary Medical Insurance (Part Trust Fund. "We are extremely pleased to learn of the approval of our registry today," said C. Puffer, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of the ABFM. "The registry allows our Diplomates to receive the 2008 CMS incentive payment and also Maintenance of Certification for Family Physicians (MC-FP) Part IV credit if they wish to do so. This is consistent with our efforts to create added value for those that actively participate in MC-FP." This module may be accessed without fee for use in participating in PQRI. However, Diplomates who are participating in MC-FP and elect to complete this module to receive Part IV credit will be required to submit the appropriate MC-FP fee, depending on which payment plan they have chosen. Guest guest
Re #2, you only can report when you file claims. Here’s a pretty lengthy explanation: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/partnerships/downloads/11399.pdf See Page 8 at the bottom for the start of the explanation of how to bill it. Good luck!
