Guest guest
Amen, Jacqui! I come to this listserve for the great info and insight about my son who has Down syndrome. All the posts about abortion make me sad; I chose not to have prenatal screening and to keep and love my son. Yet, I absolutely respect every family's right to decide on ALL health care and reproductive issues for themselves. That is what democracy is all about. I WILL vote for Obama, because like you, I would like this great democracy to be a wonderful, respectful and respected country for my growing child, not the disaster it is in right now. I fear if McCain is elected the unborn may be protected, but certainly not my son. Guest guest
I am curious, did you not see the disclaimer when you got on this list? I did. It is why I enjoy it so much. Disclaimer- " This list will operate from a pro-life standpoint. All are welcome :-) we just want you to aware of our bias up-front " That is one of the reasons I joined this list. Maybe you missed that, when you joined. I hope you don't mind me just addressing your comment about families getting to decide on all of their health care. Forgive me if you don't see this, but when you have an abortion, you are not helping the health of a baby. As for letting people decide for themselves, we don't let people decide a lot of things for themselves. And that is a good thing. I can not go in a store and take a candy bar. That is called stealing. There is a law that says, if I even take a small item, like a candy bar, I am doing something illegal. If I am living in poverty, and I need to feed my kids, cuz they have no food. I still can not go in a store, steal food, and walk out with out being prosecuted. I have a good reason to do it. It might be the best thing for my family's health. I mean, starving is not good for your health, but it is against the law. To protect the owner from anyone stealing anything, (albeit not full proof) we have laws in place to say that people can not do this. What laws do we have in place to protect a baby? What laws do we have in place to protect a woman from getting pressured by her boyfriend, doctor, parents or employer? We don't! Ask any woman who was pressured (overtly or covertly) to abort, and she will tell you. According to your theory, I say, we should remove all laws that hold people morally responsible for their actions. Because I do not want to tell anyone what to do. Let the people live! I mean after all, I do not want to be judgemental of anyone who steals, kills or hurts anyone. I do not know their whole story. Maybe they needed to do that! Maybe they were pressured. My point is, we legislate moralilty all the time. And nobody thinks twice about that. 90% of woman who have abortions report some form of severe mental health issues. I don't think I would have that from stealing a candy bar. I hope you don't mind, I just needed to address a couple of the things that you talked about. Thankfully, I live in America, where freedom of speech still prevails, and the owner of this list is still allowing us to talk about this stuff. What a blessing to all of us. We may just learn from each other. If we take the time to read what each other says. No matter how hard it is to read. God bless. Diane > > Amen, Jacqui! Guest guest
I am an adoptive parent of 4 children with Down Syndrome. My friends and family who are pro life will be voting for McCain. Many of my friends are adoptive parents. One mom has 39 children, another has 15, another has 12. When you have a heart for children one more is never too many. McCain is prolife and an adoptive parent! That speaks volumes to me. He walks his talk. MANY of us prolifers step up to the plate and adopt. We put our words into action. We DO protect the born as well as the unborn. Obama has money coming out his ears but he has not adopted a child in need of a home. Giving money to organizations or a good cause is great but it does not compare to taking a child into your family and raising it. As for the war, I do NOT want to see a war fought here on our soil. We need to keep our troops where ever they are needed for as long as they are needed so we are safe HERE in the US. I don't understand why people don't get that. If you think life for a disabled child will be difficult with McCain as president just wait until someone like Obama gets in and we have more terrorists on our soil attacking us in our malls, churches, schools, and homes. Then no one will be safe. And that is exactly the goal of the terrorists. Lee Ann > > Amen, Jacqui! I come to this listserve for the great info and insight about > my son who has Down syndrome. Guest guest
Lee Ann- I have adopted my stepson with Down Syndrome, but that's beside the point......adopting vs. not adopting does not make you any better of a person. But as far as us being safe here? Have you forgotten 9/11? What about Katrina? Don't ever be so guillable to think that it can't and won't happen here.......but we are more susceptible with all our troops somewhere else....... ~Jacqui > > > > Amen, Jacqui! People have far too many differing opinions and to dispute politics in this forum is wrong, in my opinion. >
Guest guest
I'm not gullible and I believe the troops are where they need to be. Thanks to all who serve and protect this country. Guest guest
Better or not better? Huh? What a bizzare thing to say. I was responding to this, " fear if McCain is elected the unborn may be protected, but certainly not my son., " jacquih1126 " Why would anyone think such a thing? It is so off the wall I can't even make any sense out of it. It is completely illogical. If a person feels a life is worth protecting before birth that person is certainly going to feel a life is worth protecting after the birth. Katrina? What? There have been devastating storms since the dawn of time. If you are going to live along the coast you have to understand you are taking the chance of a hurricane. I get in the car and drive every day. I know I take a chance everytime I get into a car. I don't need the government to tell me that. TAKE RESPONSIBILTY and don't push it off on someone or something else....that is my philosophy. Government is not my protector and I don't expect them to get me out of a bind. I remember 9-11 very well. Lets get them OVER THERE before they can come back over here and get us. As I recall there have been no more major terror attacks here on US soil since 9-11. Thank you President Bush!:-) Lee Ann wrote: > > Lee Ann- > I have adopted my stepson with Down Syndrome, but that's beside the > point......adopting vs. not adopting does not make you any better of > a person. > > But as far as us being safe here? Wow, you hit the nail on the head Kathy. That really is the bottom line with most abortions I suspect, for babies with or without prenatal dx. Can I quote you on this?
