Guest guest
Hope you guys can help me as you've done in the past. Re: H-12 - fill in item given class. We changed Greg's program to Verbal behavior based a little more than a year ago. To date he has acquired 65 individual targets in H-12. These include items in vehicles, restaurants, plants, food, drinks, clothes, toys, animals. Now to my question: when I ask him to say name a toy and the new target is bubbles but he wants to say " puzzle " I know I can tell him " yes that's a toy and another on is . . . . " This could go on for quite a while and then Greg gets frustrated. I feel like I'm asking him to name a number between one and one hundred. Any number he names is a number but odds are it won't be the number I want. Is it okay to give him a hint. Fot example: target - bubbles Me: Hey Greg, can you tell me a toy? Greg: Puzzle. M: That's right. Can you tell me another toy? G. Blocks. M: Super, ( here's the hint) What about a toy that has a wand? G. Bubbles. Is it okay to do this? Guest guest
I could be wrong, but I think that is whats called " using a qualifier " Cause if you think of it, I could post HERE to TELL ME A TOY and many would come up with several different answers until I break it down and give you more descriptive " cues " as to what I REALLY want to get you guys to name. A good way to TEACH BUBBLES as a toy. is to have the picture mastered as a tact. And then say TELL ME A TOY and show the picture and prompt BUBBLES. Then do an immediate transfer, tell me a toy? if you anticipate the WRONG answer fade the cue of the picture back . Then you can teach the reversal.. bubbles are a ______ or an immediate transfer trail of A kind/type of toy are _______. If you practice each individual TACT under their specific class. You may eventually start getting random answers as opposed to the first learned PUZZLES. Atleast he is on the right track, cause the SD Tell me a toy is illiciting A TOY ITEM..and not a color or a vehicle.. even though your worry may be that PUZZLE ..is only under the control of the SD...TELL ME A TOY .. so to get other items under the stim control of that SD, try and practice EACH item individually as their class individually . SO you would have puzzle Bubbles game boy and Tell me a TOY..show picture of game boy.. and do transfer trails .. Practicing this with all the other items as well.. and even though you may find that he ALWAYS fall back on PUZZLE as the " answer " to that SD.. I wouldnt say it is worth the frustration. CAUSE ..SO LONG as you know when BUBBLES (and not puzzle) are on the table with other items and say " show me the " TOY " OR during sorting he is putting the bubbles with the toys and he can answer Bubbles are a ______ and What are bubbles?TOY I would say he knows pretty much that bubbles are a toy. Just think, the WAY he is using it (if under normal conditions..ie in school or testing) he would be right. Noone will come up to him and say TELL ME A TOY and he says PUZZLE and they say SORRY YOUR WRONG.. they would need to give him more info anyway.. I personally get the same problem, but so long as he can do the reversal of the item as it's class (Bubbles are a TOY..or what are bubbles? TOY) .. rec id it as a class memeber (show me the toy).. sort it as a class memeber(put this with toys or just " SORT This " ) and when need be TACT it as a class memeber (tell me the one that you see thats a toy) then I would say has it .. No matter what as far as intraverbals go, you will most of the time need to use a qualifing carrier phrases.. but thats noraml for EVERYONE, even you or I.. Good luck! > Hope you guys can help me as you've done in the past. > > Re: H-12 - fill in item given class. > > We changed Greg's program to Verbal behavior based a little more than a year > ago.
