Question for other parents on the board. When their DAN doctor has

perscribed Valtrex for their child what dosage did they start with? My

son is almost 5 and his DAN has written a Rx for 250 mgs 1X a day.

When I inquired about increasing dosage over time (if he responds)the

doctor really seemed opposed to it. I have read a lot of info and

thought if a child is a responder to Valtrex then the dosage needs be

greatly increased for it to be most effective. If this is indeed true

is there any research that I can be directed to that proves its

effectiveness at higher dosages? I would like to show this to the DAN

and push this case a little bit further. Also what concerns would the

doctor have about a higher dose of Valtrex? Is it something to do with

the liver? THanks for the help! I look forward to the info!

My 40lb daughter takes 500mg, 1/2 tablet 3 times a day. On a month,

break for 2 weeks and restart.

250 mg for a 5 year old is tooooooooo low.  You'll not likely get any results with it.  A 5 year old should be on anywhere (depending on the doc) 750 mg - 1500 mg.  In my (again, "I'm not a doctor" opinion), that dose it much too low and can contribute to virus mutation.cherylQuestion for other parents on the board.
