BlankBAAM Members and Other Interested Persons:

The 17th annual convention of the Behavior Analysis Association of Michigan

will be held on March 20 and 21, 2003 at the Eagle Crest Conference Center

adjacent to the Ypsilanti Marriott. This year the deadline for paper

submissions is about two weeks earlier than in the past: November 22. We

hope this earlier deadline will allow us to send program books out earlier

so that everyone will have more time to plan to attend the conference. We

also hope to expand the number of commercial exhibits and have a larger

venue for the annual poster session.

Online proposal submission is available now. Online registration to attend

the conference will be available in a few weeks.

------------------------------Call for Papers-------------------------

WHAT IS BAAM?

The Behavior Analysis Association of Michigan has been organized to support

and promote scientific research on the basic principles of behavior and the

extension of those principles to create demonstrably effective and humane

outcome-based therapies with the primary goal of establishing and enhancing

functional independent living skills

WHO SHOULD COME?

Scientists, educators, behavior analysts, social workers, parents,

direct-care staff, OTs, PTs, therapists, students, parents, and anyone else

interested in the scientific understanding and effective application of the

basic principles of behavior.

WHAT IS AT THE BAAM CONVENTION?

The convention will again feature a mix of academic and practical workshops

and presentations. If you are interested in submitting a paper, poster, or

workshop proposal, use BAAM's new online registration forms at :

http://www.baam.emich.edu

*****SUBMISSION CATEGORIES*****(THE PROPOSAL DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 22, 2002)

*Posters present empirical research in visual form. Poster presenters should

be available with their poster for the entire length of the poster session

(60-90 minutes) to discuss their research. A formal verbal presentation is

not required. The poster should be no larger than 4 feet high by 4 feet

wide. Posters may be submitted on-site at the BAAM convention, but only

accepted posters submitted by the proposal deadline will be listed in the

convention schedule booklet. Posters added late may appear in the online

listing.

*Papers and addresses are individual oral presentations on topics of

relevance to behavior analysis. These may range from 20-50 minutes in

length.

*Workshops are educational sessions which are scheduled for 3 or 6 hours.

Workshops typically involve the use of written training materials and guided

practice of skills learned. Workshop presenters can specify the

participants' academic level and limit enrollment. Participants are charged

a workshop fee (above the convention registration fee) and may be charged a

materials fee. BAAM workshop fees are generally between $30-50 for a

three-hour session, exclusive of materials fees. BAAM shares the workshop

fees with the presenter(s).

*Symposia are a series of addresses organized around a specific theme. A

chair introduces the theme and each of the speakers. A discussant concludes

the symposium by presenting an integrative or evaluative summary of the

symposium papers. A BAAM symposium typically lasts 90 minutes.

*Panel Discussions are 50 or 80 minute sessions in which a group of 3-5

presenters discusses an issue of current relevance with an audience present.

Panel discussions may be free-form or moderated. Panel discussions may

include audience participation.

*Meetings of 50 to 80 minutes may be arranged. Proposals for open meetings

(e.g., special interest groups) will be evaluated by BAAM using criteria

applied to other presentations; costs of rooms for meetings not open to the

general BAAM membership (e.g., interviews) will be paid by the meeting

organizers. Contact BAAM for more information.

*Commercial Exhibit opportunities are available. Contact BAAM for more

information.

BAAM will review each proposal for relevance to behavior analysis, overall

quality, and fit within scheduling limitations. Decisions of BAAM regarding

scheduling and acceptability of proposals are final.
