Wisconsin Might Help Autistic Families

Monday March 24, 2008

Kids with autism might soon have mandatory coverage in Wisconsin,

reports WUWM Milwaukee Public Radio.

The Wisconsin State Senate approved a measure that would require

insurance companies to provide coverage for kids with autism and

Asperger's syndrome. Due to the high rate of children being diagnosed

with the disorders in the state, officials agree something has to be

done to help the families and children suffering.

The bill would cost the state and private insurance companies around

$75 million annually. About 16 other states require insurance companies

to provide some level of coverage for autistic children.
