Guest guest
My turn to be a grouch today! When I send someone to a specialist and surgery is needed then I expect them to be sent back to me for the pre-op physical not have the ortho office use their physician extenders to further take away from my practice! I call the office manager to request that my patients be returned to me for pre-op clearance and get this run around of "it's how we've always done it!" and no committment at all --- if they send the patient back to me they'll still do their "own" H & P before hand! So if it isn't professionally courteous then it's medical wastefulness! GRRR!

Guest guest
Myria, I could be wrong, but I think that surgeons are SUPPOSED to do their own preop physicals if the pt. is healthy and does not need medical evaluation to " clear " him/her for surgery. Isn't it paid for as part of the global fee for the surgery?---Sharlene > > My turn to be a grouch today! Guest guest
Often the specialist has the pre-op physical done by the "pretesting dept" of the hospital. They do labs and ECG and send pt and labs/ECG to me. I can use the $15 bucks for the ECG myself. IDEA ! picking up on Myria's train fo thought... With the referral letter to the specialist, in bold print - "send pt back for pre-op testing if surgery is indicated" To: practiceimprovement1 Sent: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 12:20:18 PMSubject: pre op physicals My turn to be a grouch today! Guest guest
Most (if not all0 of the specialists we refer to automatically send the patients to us for pre-op for most things. There are a few exceptions, espcially if the person is already undergoing certain treatments at the hosptial. But we get quite a few pre-op requests.
