Guest guest
Some of my favorites are gift cards to barnes and Noble, Blockbuster or even movie tickets which purchased from Triple AAA run about $5.50 a piece which is a nice night out. Or even making cookies with your daughter and putting them in a pretty crystal bowl like Mikasa would probably be appreciated. I met a teacher recently and she saif, no more knick knacks! She thought these ideas were good or even a plant. denise > Any ideas for simple, meaningful holiday gifts for my 2.1 year old > daughter's therapist(s)? Guest guest
Hi: I usually make a plate of assorted homemade cookies, cold pasta salad, soft breadsticks with garlic butter .... I put these in/on a nice plate/bowl combo, wrap and bring in right before lunch. I know my son's SLP is so busy, and she cannot cook from scratch to save her life. ( he has had her for 7 years- so I do know plenty about her) She says it is her favorite meal of the year! Definitely no knick-knacks... her office is overloaded! Take care,
Guest guest
When one of my son's speech therapists moved away, I bought a " talking card " with a built in recorder and picture frame (around 5 to 7 dollars) I put a picture in of them together (took for a communcation board I made Wiley) and taped him making the sounds he learned -- like " o " and " ee " and so on. She really loved it and it was relatively inexpensive. Guest guest
- Last year, we scoured small craft fairs starting in October and came up with inexpensive but nicely crafted Christmas ornaments that related to the area of expertise for each of the therapists (his PT got a victorian designed lace shoe, music therapist got an angel with a guitar, etc.). I think we lucked out on finding something relative to everyone and, hopefully, we can do something similar this year. I insisted that the most we spend on each therapist and teacher be $3 to $5 dollars and we did stay within the budget. Another idea, have your child help you make bookmarks with felt designs or other materials that can be cut into shapes that relate to the area of expertise - it's a quick project, uses inexpensive felt or other material you can maybe find around the house, and a glue gun or glue. Plus, it comes from your child rather than a store that way and teachers/therapists always like that. Sherry, , (typical 15-year-old), and (4 and trying very, very hard!) Guest guest
We usually did the homemade Christmas Ornaments that you can find at 's or Walmart. We also did the suncathchers that you can either paint by numbers or actually bake in the oven. They also love any homemade goodies or even Gift Certificates or those really nice body sets from Bath and Body.I always have three teachers so I go to BigLots or other places to get them cheaper.Hope this helps.Gretchen Missouri
Guest guest
A bottle of super tonic, a first aid salve, echinacea or astralagus tincture, ginger root capsules, cayenne or tumeric powder, and cayenne tincture. I'm talking 21 & 23 year old "kids" who eat crap and live the life of young adults! They grew up vegetarians and still eat that way, but you know you can be veg and still eat unhealthy. They grew up with alternative everything and neither one of them think much of doctors and do not work where health insurance is offered (I think that's a good thing until snowboard season!). Here's a start: Vitamin C Echinachia Golden Seal Arnica (?) Help me out gang. I know I'll get the best suggestions from this group. Thanks - Shari Suzi What is a weed? Guest guest
A small sheaf of simple recipes? Oh, I don't think so. My kids aren't into food preparation. That's why I'm looking at some preventative stuff or something to help them when (not if) they get a bug. They know about vitamin c and ech. Thanks for throwing that out there anyway. But it makes me think maybe a tub of miso would be in order. Our naturopath used to say to eat a cup of hot water with miso and garlic when the kids were sick and they loved it. Miso stays good for a very long time in the refrigerator. See you did make me think of something else to put in there! Shari
Guest guest
Shari, what a great idea! I would also add plant-based enzymes and probiotics. Maybe some whole food nutrition bars.
