[downsyndrome] National Boycott of "Tropic Thunder"

The boycott is official. I sent this email to everyone on my email list.

I have never sent out an email to everyone I know before, but this one is important to me for obvious reasons. If you haven't come to understand just how offense the "R" word is, r-e-t-a-r-d, please trust me enough to take my word that it is comparable to the "N" word is every way. Those of us who were around in the 60s and heard the "N" word being used so freely will surely understand why we need to sensitize people to the negative impact that the "R" word has on the lives and social image of people with disabilities, like my dear son Graham. Please, out of respect to my son and so many others, join me in boycotting films that include dialog that is hurtful, hateful and injurous to people with intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, I would ask that you inform people around you who use this word just how offensive it is.
