I

went trolling the net for some kind of explanation to this. Seems it

means different things to different people but here's a selection of

quotes. Something may resonate with you.....

" The dragon can sleep

for thousands of years, just as the Hepatitis C virus can " sleep "

undetected without symptoms for 10-30 yrs.

.... this " stealth " disease, known in the hepatitis online community

as " the dragon " . The hepatitis C virus is referred to as the

" dragon "

because of its silent, mysterious nature. It can be a potentially

deadly disease. It can hide (sleep) for

decades without someone

knowing they have it. It is like an internal fire burning, affecting

your liver and other body systems and at anytime can cause havoc to

one's health. "

The dragon is a metaphor,

the virus attacking your liver. Hence you we all want to slay the dragon.

" I found that Hep C has a nick name. The Sleeping

Dragon. "

" In Chinese medicine, the liver is represented by a

dragon and is said to store anger. "

May your

Dragon sleep gently in the fight against Hepatitis C ...

Luv

anne

The nurse practitioner that set me up the

first time told me she didn’t care so much about eating protein, just so

long as I ate. Since I’d heard that protein was ideal and since I

have an overwhelming “thing” for cheese, it was a no-brainer for

me!

So many doctors today are just going

through the motions. They don’t remember you from the last

visit. It’s up to you to make yourself “memorable” and

demand the care you deserve. I know sometimes, it’s just easier to

let it slide – but it’s your future and even your life that’s

at stake. Don’t let them forget to do anything. Ultimately,

it’s your responsibility.

It’s not often that we find a doctor

that “clicks” with us so we just have to work with what we’ve

got unless they’re negligent of course. With the knowledge you gain

here, you can always be one-up on an overloaded doctor.

I’ve had two doctors- the

first was a gastroenterologist and he was supposed to be the top HCV man in the

Midwest. The doctor I have now is a

hepatic specialist. I was never told about fat or protein with

riba. The first one never told me I should lose weight! He never

told me I had fatty liver disease, either. I think his practice is

overloaded. They forgot to do the 4 week labs for my last treatment and

oh boy was my new doctor pissed. I was undetectable at 4 weeks on my

first treatment, but we’ll never know for sure about the second.

Well it sounds like your doc is too busy..and unfortunately YOU are the one who suffers from that,, You dont get adequate care when he is too busy.. I think that that is the ONE MAIN REASON that we have this group here,, to make sure everyone knows what they need to know... If I can find my sheet from the RN who taught our class, Ill scan it and and post it,, with all my notes that she told us,, I listened carefully and took notes, and I did everything exactly as they said and I cleared.... but I also had to research info for myself because my gastro was very very, did I say very arrogant!!! I finally fired him and went back to my PCP...as he was the ONLY one who really cared about if I cleared or not and the ONLY one who was willing to treat my side effects and listened to me... Dont forget to drink you FILTERED water and take tylenol 30 min before your shot and then again a couple of hours afterwards,, keep the severe sides in check.. and dont forget to eat a small amount of fat when you take your Riba,, just a teas of peanut butter, cream cheese etc on some toast will help.. If you dont get enough Protein, you will fight nausea so the peanut butter or cream cheese has both fat and pro in it ,, it was my lifesaver on tx! No virus found in this outgoing message. I think it's very important for the spouse to go to the dr visits. Like you, my husband would forget a couple of things to ask or maybe not remember everything. So, I go, take notes, ask questions, and visit until we feel we're ready to leave. The doc refers to me as 'the boss', in a loving way.

I stayed behind last visit to get some paperwork and he patted me on the back on the way out and told me: "You're doing a good thing, here.". So, don't be afraid to take your spouse, a friend, a cousin, or someone you trust to help you remember and get all the info you can.

FOUR MORE WEEKS AFTER THIS WEEK ON TX FOR MY HUSBAND'S 2nd time thru!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're pumped, altho, he does ache. He has worked 6 days a week through the whole treatment. He does force water. So, I guess the work brings some extra soreness and is expected. But, he wants to stay as active as possible, then comes home and rests up for the next day...4 MORE WEEKS!!!!!!! :o) We hope this is the last tx for him....

Love to all,

Dianna

Re: Visualizations

Wy wife always joins me at the Dr.'s appointments. They often "shudder" at her site, because she's always carrying that 5" x 7" mini legal pad, with a full list of fresh questions! It works, because they know we've been researching and have valid questions. Plus, my wife won't leave until all is fully explained! (We also have a pretty good Dr. who now has 2 way conversations with us!)I agree with you, Dorothy. It's really up to us patients to question and force a dialog. A list is great cause you forget less.>> The nurse practitioner that set me up the first time told me she didn't care> so much about eating protein, just so long as I ate. Since I'd heard that>

A good plase to go is Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. It is the tranplant team there and 3 specialize in treating Hep c etc. They have a team that works your case. The PA assigned to me was available everyday, returned my calls in less than an hour. called me every Friday with my blood test results that I had every Thurday on Friday to discuss and make any changes if needed. Made sure that I had the Procrit in my possession so that when I needed it I had it. At one point I spoke to here and within 15 minutes she called me back to make sure I was ok because I did not sound good to her ( I sounded like I was going to cry, and I did). Even now (I have been off treatment since end of July, I think) she called a couple of weeks ago and sent me script for an ultra sound because it had been 6 months since my last one. I feel very luck to have such great Doctors. If anyone lives in the Los Angeles area I highly recommemen them! Srry about the ramble! R
