Guest guest
wel I'll probably disagree with people here (maybe?).? I work part-time as a personal trainer and my vegan inlaws tried to tell me that we shouldn't exercise because they didn't back in the day.? Well, they also DID a lot more back in the day... they didn't have all this convenience stuff that we had.? I'm talking way back... before cars, before buses, before microwaves and ovens, before grocery stores, etc.? They had to exercise out of necessity.? Today, I really feel like exercise is important because we aren't getting it.? And I personally don't see anything " wrong " with running... it builts bone, something that we loose as we age.? It's best to run on softer surfaces like grass/dirty paths to help with joints... ick pavement!? Curious to see the thoughts of others on this, it's something I'm pretty passionate about- I have my BS in it and plan to get my masters and phD in it as well as soon as the hubby is done with his phD Exercise? Okay the more I read the more questions I have... I know this is a trad food group, and not an exercise group, but I'm curious about the views regarding exercise. I'm reading NT and have not stumbled across anything yet, but did read a bit about how unnatural activities such as running are in an excerpt from The Makers Diet. Not concerned with weight here, I just enjoy running. That being said, I could see making a switch to walking if need be. If this is too off topic, please forgive. I am soaking up as much info as I can. Much thanks SUSIE Via iPod Touch ------------------------------------
Guest guest
I don't think anyone should ever tell you exercise isn't important or good for you. If you're an active person in your work life, then maybe you don't need to designate an " exercise session " like us " sit down all day " office types. I think that's a little silly about the vegan in-laws who don't believe in exercise because our ancestors didn't do it. The other poster was right - they didn't have to because they exercised in their normal day (eg farming, no cars, hunter/gathering)! As for type of exercise, I personally believe to do what you like. I used to run but it became more and more hard on my knees so I walk now and its really growing on me. But I used to hate walking so if it was going to be running or no exercise at all, take running. Do what makes you feel good and gets you moving. Its more harmful to your body NOT to exercise. I wouldn't let anyone talk me out of that, personally. I'm new to traditional foods also. It is a lot to absorb! I'm learning to just take what works for me, though. Sometimes that's all you can do, at least to start. Good luck! >
Guest guest
VEGAN INLAWS? What a great name for a punk rock band! Regarding following their health advice, be sure to ask them which tribes of people were vegan " back in the day " . Will Winter

Guest guest
My favorite exercise aside from housework, gardening, and walking is using a mini trampoline, also known as rebounding. It is easy on the joints and uses the principles of centrifugal and centripital action, meaning when you jump down on the trampoline you use gravity to exert pressure on your muscles (every muscle in your body) and when you jump up (i.e., rebound) there is no pressure/force on your muscles. This constant push/pull action challenges every part of the body to get stronger (even your eye muscles!). Can be done indoors or outdoors anywhere, any time of the year, and once you have paid for the rebounder unit there is no more cost except time. I have a professional quality rebounder (ReboundAIR brand) which has a Permetron mat that will not stretch out and will handle a person up to 350 pounds. (Hope none of us is that big for health's sake.) Cheap models will stretch out and that can cause foot pronation, so it really is worth it to get a quality piece of equipment. There are several good companies, including Needak and Al 's ReboundAIR, Lots of information on www.healthbounce.com if you are interested. R. Guest guest
You don't even want to go there LOL... my inlaws tried to tell my husband (who is going for his phD in theology and philosophy) that Adam and Eve didn't eat meat in the garden of eden, which is why we shouldn't.? His comeback was " yeah, they didn't wear clothes either, are we all supposed to be naked then? " in addition to some more theological arguements. Yep... christmas and thanksgiving with " no turkey turkey loaf " is rather interesting!! Re: Exercise? VEGAN INLAWS? What a great name for a punk rock band! Guest guest
Naked sounds good for absorbing more Vitamin D. RE: Adam & Eve being vegan - there are two schools of thought: 1. We don't know that for sure. 2. Diet appeared to change after Noah's Flood - at which time, records indicate, grapes were fermented into wine & people began to eat meat. Apart from it not really mattering what people did 6,000 years ago, I'll go with current research on a healthy diet for today's planet. co Subject: Re: Exercise?
