Guest guest
My daughter used to go into screaming fits that could last for hours and included head banging and hurting people who tried to console her. We eventually related this to a milk allergy and stopped giving her milk products (including in breads and crackers) and the screaming fits diminished and she began learning to do some things. We did discover the milk connection on our own, but have since then heard of and implemented a GFCF diet that has made a tremendous impact on our child. If you would be interested in some info, e-mail me privately and I can send you some info on it. sarahschaffer@... By the way, welcome to the list. Guest guest
, first of all, let me say I appreciate your thanks to me for starting this list, and let me be the first to welcome you and your husband to the list. There are alot of great people on this list that will be able to offer you much help and advice. I have 4 boys with special needs, and it's not easy. I remember how it was when I first heard the word autism associated with my kids. I read everything I could get my hands on. Research is very important. So you are on the right track there. There are waiting lists everywhere and not enough places to get evaluations, that's for sure. It took us forever to get my kids in to childrens Hospitol. I live close to Cincinnati, Ohio. So we are close. My kids are 4, 5, 6, and 10. The little ones are at that tantrum age anyway, and I think their dissability adds to it. I can relate to the screaming. My 5 and 6 yr olds are aggressive at times and scream, throw things, bite etc. We do alot of stuff at home. I homeschool them and we have a therapy room set up in our home.I have a trampoline, a small one, that they jump on. I have magazines in a box that they can rip up. I also have a punching bag they love to hit, and bean bags they love to throw. All of these things help them to get all the frustration out, and release all that energy they have. I know I have learned the important thing when the child screams and tantrums, is to stay calm. That is the hardest thing to do, I know. I also just try to hug my child and hold them tight. They have sensory problems and this helps. Sometimes this helps and other times I just sit with them, and ride it out. Sometimes nothing you do is able to calm them, but to let them get it all out. I use natural suppliments, which has helped my kids, and limit their sugar. I also eliminated dairy products and wheat, which has helped with their behavior. There are others who can help you out here also. So come on all, offer up your advice please. You should get in touch with the Autism Society and they have packets of info they can send you. Please feel free to ask any question ,anytime. That's what this list is here for, support. If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to email me privately. Once again welcome, and look forward to hearing more from you. Please keep us posted. Welcome to all new members. If anyone hasn't introduced themselves please do so, and everyone else, updates please. God bless all, Sharon(moderator)
