Guest guest
Ummmm, the " sex crap, " as you put it, in Wicked amounts to nothing more than a single scene in the book. That scene has more to do with Elphaba's feelings for, and rather star- crossed relationship with, a particular man than with cataloging bedroom maneuvers. The entire novel is an attempt to explain where Oz's Wicked Witch of the West—and other characters—might have come from, as psychologically viable developments of realistic adult personalities. L. Baum's novels, although good political satires when they were written, tended to portay characters as flat and two-dimensional, wholly good and handsome or wholly bad and ugly. Maguire's novels try to depict the characters with more depth, as more believable. I think they do it well. I would suggest, though, that you try reading Wicked and decide for yourself, as is your right. You might find the book at your local library, and thus save yourself the cost of the book if you're later disappointed with it. Incidentally, I think Son of a Witch, the sequel to Wicked, is the only other of Maguire's novels that deal with Oz. It deals with Elphaba's son, a character I think Maguire invented. I don't remember Baum's novels ever mentioning a son of the Witch of the West. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Lost look like similar treatments of other traditional fairy-tale characters. I haven't read those, however, so I could be wrong. Koldune > > I guess I'll have to do that. I'll have to google and see if there's a forum for Oz books. I was in a Wal-Mart today, and I saw that Wicked book for a little over $10. I would've loved to have gotten it and read it if the writer knew how to write a book without having sex crap in it. It looked pretty good. It was The Wizard of Oz from the Wicked Witch of the West's point of view. I wish there was a way I could get an edited copy of it. I noticed there were several other books by Maguire including Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Lost, Mirror Mirror, and Son of a Witch. Is anyone here familiar with any of those books and can tell me how many of them are Oz books and if they're clean or not? > God bless, Irelan > > --------------------------------- > Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
