Guest guest
Debi, if you can find a center close to a Mc House that could save you a lot on lodging & you could also look into Angel Flight or some other type of service that provides free or discount air travel. I met a couple of parents at Spectrum that used Angel flight to get to the Spectrum Center. The Tomatis alone is expensive enough without adding all the travel expenses in the mix. We're just lucky we're about an hours drive from Spectrum. If your friend has any questions I would be more than happy to talk to her. It's a big decision to make when you consider the cost & not knowing what the outcome may be. Wendie > Thanks, congrats, and please keep the reports coming! I'm forwarding > your updates to a friend who's considering whether or not Tomatis > can benefit her son. Guest guest
Sondra, my husband & I were wondering if that was the case. It just seemed too easy & the special ed preschool is so nice. Guest guest
When my children were in preschool it was of so much easy to have a more workable team. it wasn't until school age where the expectations were of more challenged. I to be to say in areas we to be have now the children's elementary is been a challenge but the middle school and High school seem more open to things. Guest guest
Wendie, I think you did wonderfully, but it does sound as if they were trying to scam on the speech/ot thing. I got 2hrs per week with the speech path 1:1, and 2 hrs of OT 1:1. The thing is, and it sounds that way with your situation, that the teacher and aids will do a lot of the work. But, if it were me I would request a new meeting for 4 wks into the school year, so you might want to ask in the next few days. If you aren't wanting to rock the boat you can say you would just like to meet with your team to see how her year is going and you feel 4 wks in is a good time. Then, at the 4 wk meeting, again if it were me, I would ask for a specific block of time of at least 30 min session each time. For example, I would request at least 2hrs of speech per week, they could choose either 4 periods of 30 min sessions, or 2 sessions of 1hr. Make sure it's written in the IEP, not just verbal, and request written documentation each session. At Allie's school they send a yellow slip home each session, might be a day later, but I always get one. If they don't do it at your school, you can keep a spiral notebook in her backpack and request the therapist to log the date and sign her name each time. Get the written documentation in your IEP as well. It sounds as if they are overall very cooperative. If it were me, I'd try to do these things as sweetly as possible. You get more flies with honey than vinegar! Debi > I just wanted to let everyone know how our first IEP went. I was > pretty nervous after hearing so many horror stories about IEP's. The journey seems to be different for all, or at least most of the travelers. The destination is WELLNESS and very worth the trip.
