If you want to get them ready for reading, I would work on phonemic

awareness. This is the ability to recognize the sounds in words. There

are phonemic awareness lessons that you can buy from the Haughton Learning

Center. They do have a website:

I recommend the following:

Phonological Coding: Phonemic awareness

and

Phonological Coding: Word and Syllable Awareness

Then I would start the book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons or

Reading Mastery I.
