Guest guest
I wanted to introduce myself and my daughter, Hunter. I'm and she is my 4 month old daughter. She is twin A of an identical set of twins. Her sister is Savanna. The pregnancy was hellish, so needless to say, I am not anxious about spending more time with doctors and specialists. But, a mom has to do what a mom has to do. I am so glad to have found you all through the moms of twins board at parents place. When I see the neurosurgeon, what questions do I need to ask? How do we find out exactly what she has, plagio or tolli or something else? I am nervous he is going to blow me off and then what will I do? Hunter's ears are uneven and she is flat on the right side. She's prefered that side from day one. Anyway, I just have tons of questions. I'll keep lurking and see what I can learn. Thanks for being here,
Guest guest
Hi ! (Hi Hunter!) Glad you're here. The neurosurgeon may order x-rays or a CT scan to rule out craniosynostosis. But, don't be surprised if he/she just diagnoses Hunter with positional plagiocephaly without any further tests. With some doctors, an external exam is enough. Then they will probably take a bunch of photos and set you up to get the helmet or band. If the neuro doc blows you off or gives you an answer you don't like ( " Hunter will grow out of it... " ) you could ask for a prescription for the helmet/band just for YOUR peace of mind, or you can find another doctor to work with. The possibility of torticollis really needs to be addressed. Hunter's pediatrician can probably help you out on that one. If YOU suspect she is having tightness in the muscles on one side of her neck and the pediatrician says there is no problem, don't be afraid to be pushy and ask him or her to tell you why they think there is no problem. Untreated tort. has been linked to some scary problems, like scoliosis. And untreated tort. can also be painful. It might not be a bad idea to take some information with you pointing out the long-term effects of untreated tort. if you think you will have problems at the doctors office. Good luck!
