Guest guest
April read this to Sis also Aunt Gay Re: Looking for Good Tyroid Dr Dalls Fort Worth Area Help!I should have pasted this in my last reply, but on Dr. Rosendahl'swebsite regarding Graves, he states this:"Perhaps the most important advantage of surgery over the other methodsof treatment for Graves' Disease is found in patients who sufferfrom the eye problem or "exophthalmos" that can sometimes accompany thisdisease. Total thyroidectomy may increase the chances that theexophthalmos will improve or possibly even disappear following totalthyroidectomy."I feel for you and your sister. A poor doctor can really mess the restof your life up. Like I said, if I were you I would at least call Dr.Rosendahl. It says on his website that they will only take calls frompeople who have not been treated because he doesn't like to jump intothe middle of a doctor's treatment plan. However, he also talks abouthaving to fix failed surgeries and treatments. I would call and explainthat you need to fix a failed treatment. He states on his website:If you have Graves' Disease and wish to speak with the doctor, callThe Thyroid Surgery Center of Texas, P.A. at .Pat>> My sister has severe Graves disease the first Dr she went to becasueshe was losing her eyesight made her do the RAI , we had already donequite a bit of research and had read this was the worst thing to do andshe begged her to surgically remove it and they refused and because shewas afraid since she was going blind and her eyes were popping out ofher head she went ahead and did it and low and behold it had the effectswe had read about on the net, we think this caused her thyroid to dumpinto her system actually throwing her into a near thyroid storm and hereyse got severely worse ( Dr Stella Hecker in Fort Worth) she has nobusiness we think being in the profession) then she had to have 4decompression surgeries to keep them form popping out and after thatthey went in to remove the bone around the optical shaft of the eye in alast ditch effort on the eye she lost sight in to try to save it, thenshe had surgery to uncross her eyes as they> were painfully crossed and her last surgery was to raise her eyelidsback up, she keeps bouncing back and forth from Hper to hypo they aretrying to regulate her meds but Dr Darren Lackan of Fort Worth doesntlisten to her input ( eveything about this case has baffeled the Drs shehas seen becasue they have never seen a case they say as severe as hersthat has progressed so quickly, she does not respond like other patientsand her metobilizim does not act the same ( during surgery on hereyelids the Plastic Surgen said it just takes way more meds, his commentwas enough to bring a bull down) for her and Dr Lackan that is tryingto regulate her thyroid meds does not listen to her when she tries totalk to him about the effects the meds are having on her (such asfatigue so bad she cannot even sit up in bed) that maybe she does notfit into normal ranges he is used to) he gets angry and refuses topossibly think outside of the box, we are just looking> for someone to help us find a Dr that will listen to her and nottreat her like a child ( she is 50 years old!) Guest guest
Dr. Rosendahl performed my TT exactly 8 weeks ago. He spoke with me multiple times over the phone before and since my surgery. He is awesome. I am in Flower Mound and the 4 hour drive to have him perform the surgery was well worth it. He is very direct in his answers and will speak exactly what he thinks. He is also a very, very caring man. Call him (512)608-9595. Penny Re: Looking for Good Tyroid Dr Dalls Fort Worth Area Help! I would call and talk to Dr. Rosendahl. Here is his website with the link to Graves. http://www.thyroidcancer.com/hyperthyroidism_graves.htm I understand that he does free consultations (at least he used to). He is a thyroid surgeon in the Austin area, but I'll bet he knows plenty of people. As he states in his web site, he has had to correct many flawed thyroid treatments. Guest guest
Kim, What is RAI? I have MS and know I am HypoT. I have an appointment with Dr Feb 5th! I'm starting to be a bit more concerned now because my vision has been deteriorating rapidly over the past 6 months. It's not Optic Neuritis because I had that 4 different times, and it is not the same. I'm in Slaton, BTW. Marcie wrote: I, too, had RAI, although my Grave's hadn't progressed to the point ofyour sisters'. I was made to think that it was the only option becausemy heart rate was so wacky from being hyper, they said I wouldn'tsurvive the surgery. I, too, read all those RAI horror stories andprayed that I wouldn't be one of them, but unfortunately, I was. Myvision got really bad right after the RAI, but the inflammation seemsto have calmed down now (a year later) I see Dr. (I live inLubbock). He and his wife are so good to me and well worth any trip!Take care,Kim>> My sister has severe Graves disease the first Dr she went to becasueshe was losing her eyesight made her do the RAI , we had already donequite a bit of research and had read this was the worst thing to doand she begged her to surgically remove it and they refused andbecause she was afraid since she was going blind and her eyes werepopping out of her head she went ahead and did it and low and beholdit had the effects we had read about on the net, we think this causedher thyroid to dump into her system actually throwing her into a nearthyroid storm and her eyse got severely worse ( Dr Stella Hecker inFort Worth) she has no business we think being in the profession) thenshe had to have 4 decompression surgeries to keep them form poppingout and after that they went in to remove the bone around the opticalshaft of the eye in a last ditch effort on the eye she lost sight into try to save it, then she had surgery to uncross her eyes as they> were painfully crossed and her last surgery was to raise hereyelids back up, she keeps bouncing back and forth from Hper to hypothey are trying to regulate her meds but Dr Darren Lackan of FortWorth doesnt listen to her input ( eveything about this case hasbaffeled the Drs she has seen becasue they have never seen a case theysay as severe as hers that has progressed so quickly, she does notrespond like other patients and her metobilizim does not act the same( during surgery on her eyelids the Plastic Surgen said it just takesway more meds, his comment was enough to bring a bull down) for herand Dr Lackan that is trying to regulate her thyroid meds does notlisten to her when she tries to talk to him about the effects the medsare having on her (such as fatigue so bad she cannot even sit up inbed) that maybe she does not fit into normal ranges he is used to) hegets angry and refuses to possibly think outside of the box, we arejust looking> for someone to help us find a Dr that will listen to her and nottreat her like a child ( she is 50 years old!) Guest guest
RAI is radioactive iodine used to ablate the thyroid gland in folks who are hyperthyroid or to ablate the remnant of the thyroid gland after surgery for thyroid cancer. I don't think it would be relevant for you. If you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, your eye problems may be related to that. If you have one auto-immune disease, then you are at higher risk for all others. Marcie wrote: Kim, What is RAI? I have MS and know I am HypoT. I have an appointment with Dr Feb 5th! Guest guest
No, thank goodness, RAI doesn't sound like something I need to be concerned with. My aunt did have this done, though I didn't know what it was called. She had her T removed years ago, but supposedly it tried to grow back. That was when she had the RAI. Said it was cancerous. I still don't think she's regulated. Mood swings, weight issues...
