It is common for medication to cause hallucinations in some people (I am a nurse)

but it is fairly often short lived, and if not it may be possible to alter the dosage or the entire medicine.

Your Dad and yourself will be in my prayers and I hope your surgery goes well and you will soon be fully fit again,

best wishes,

Update on my dad and on me

This past Sunday my dad had his gall bladder removed laproscopically. However, the infection in his colon and intestines remain. He started having panic attacks real bad so they are giving him something for that plus pain medication. One or the other or the mixture is messing with his head and he's hallucinating. If I don't find out he's improved by tomorrow, I'm going to see him on Saturday and raise hell and I don't care what it takes, I will force his doctor to appear and give me a good reason why my dad is so messed up. This is totally unacceptable. At the moment, my sister, her husband and my dad's wife are trying to get answers and not succeeding. Well they have about 36 hours then they have to deal with me. I've raised cain before and got success and I'll do it again.

As for me, it's definite that I'm heading for surgery. I will probably have elbow surgery on Tuesday or Wednesday, not sure which but I'll let you know when I do. The fact that my left hand is steadily weakening makes it crucial I have it done as soon as possible. It's not a real difficult surgery. Basically they give me anesthesia to induce twilight sleep then numb my left arm past the elbow. They make a small incision in the elbow, locate the ulnar nerve and relocate it to the inside side of the arm. Then they close. Takes about 90 minutes and then another 90 minutes in recovery and I can go home but I won't be able to work for a week and probably spend most of that time in a cast. Therefore I probably won't be online for that time period.

All prayers are welcome but please say more for my dad than me. I know I'll be ok.

I'm not as certain about him. As I said, I'll keep you posted.

Good advice from . I am a nurse too. Just another thought.....given the fact that he just had surgery, still has infections and is probably becoming weakened from his altered mental status you may need to send him for short term rehab. It may be easier, safer, etc for him to recover a bit in a facility, maybe get some psych follow up if symptoms persist. That may take some work away from your mother and sister.

Best wishes and good health to the both of you. Helaine

Dearest Max, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's difficult hospitalization, and the reaction to the medications!! (Believe it or not, ...that is partly why I was in the hospital longer than originally intended also. I had an allergic reaction to two different antibiotics that they put me on for my ulcerative colitis!!!!) This was NOT a good thing. But, I'm sure you've been there with your Dad's recent experience. I'm sorta back today. Will be somewhat scarce this coming week, but then I hope to be more back to my old routine and schedule starting the following week! I can't wait, either. Our family will certainly be saying MANY PRAYERS for you, and for your Dad, AND FOR THE DOCTORS that work with you and your surgery, AND the doctors that work with your Dad and his conditions. Hang in there, and know that you have many praying warriors on your side and many angels watching over you and your Dad also! Good luck to you on your surgery!!! I'm so sorry that you need to get the surgery done, but hopefully, all will go as it should, and you will be up and back to your good ole self SOONER rather than LATER! Many prayers will be in attendance with you as always! Please give your Dad all our best wishes for a speedy recovery too! Thanks Helaine but that would be my step-mother. My mom passed away in 1995.

No offense, just clarifying :)

Sending prayers for rapid healing for your Dad, Max and Prayers for your family to get you all through this stressful time.

Also take good care of yourself and Good luck and prayers going your way for your surgery and rapid healing, I had the same op about 2 1/2 years ago it was great to get rid of the pins and needles in the last 2 fingers of my right hand.

I still have the same op to be done on my left arm also, but I don't do well under anaesthetics so I am giving myself a break lol and I am a coward about being in hospitals

And Love

There is no hospitalization required for this surgery. They told me it was outpatient, the surgery lasts a half hour and I stay in the recovery room for 1-2 hours then go home. They don't even knock me out. They first inject my arm with a nerve block that knocks out the arm from shoulder down then they put me in twilight sleep. Lord knows I can use the rest lol. In that condition though there is no control over what comes out of my mouth. Last time I told a nurse she was beautiful but I don't know the nurse nor what she looks like now so who knows if it was appropriate? The way I look at it is if she was attractive, then I told the truth and if she wasn't, I boosted her spirits for the day. Win-win either way. Works for me :)
