Guest guest
YOU ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO GIVE Since prosperity is omnipresent, you always have something to give! A widow with a houseful of small children telephoned a Unity counselor. She had no money or food for her children. It was lunch time and her children had not eaten since the day before. She desperately needed to demonstrate prosperity. The counselor knew that giving is the first step in receiving: that one is never impoverished by giving, but is enriched. She explained that the widow must first give in some way; that the act of giving would move on universal substance, and would start substance flowing back to her in some appropriate form. The widow's first reaction was much the same as yours or mine may have been the first time we were told we must give in order to receive. She lamented: " But that's just the problem! I have nothing to give. " To which the counselor replied: Of course you have something to give. We always have something to give. " The counselor then urged this frantic widow to look about her and ask for divine guidance concerning what she could give. It was further suggested that, after starting the flow of substance by giving, she should get ready to receive by preparing her table for the meal she wanted for her children; and by preparing her grocery list for shopping, in the assurance that the necessary money would appear very soon. Hesitantly the widow followed instructions. Suddenly she remembered flowers growing in her yard: she cut them and gave them to a sick neighbor, who seemed overjoyed to receive them. Next she prepared her table with the best china, silver, and linens in the house. This gave the children pleasure and excitement, and they expectantly awaited a good meal. Just as she was completing her grocery list, someone who had owed her money for a long time dropped by and paid her $30 on the debt. Thus she proved that giving is the first step in receiving.
