Guest guest
The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots . most people probably know this already. What you may not know and should know is the following: once the carrots are cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them (this is the same chlorine used your pool) since they do not have their skin or natural protective covering, they give them a higher dose of chlorine. You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator for a few days, a white covering will form on the carrots, this is the chlorine which resurfaces. At what cost do we put our health at risk to have esthetically pleasing vegetables which are practically plastic? We do hope that this information can be passed on to as many people as possible in the hopes of informing them where these carrots come from and how they are processed. Chlorine is a very well known carcinogen. This information from a farmer who grows and packages carrots for IGA, METRO, LOBLAWS, etc. found on CNN and passed on to me by Todd Churchill. http://www.rense.com/general83/carrots.htm9-25-
Guest guest
When I first take my organic ones out of the bag they are kind of slimy so I rinse them - could never figure out what that is all about.Do you know if they use this chlorine dip for the organic ones too? I don't see how they can get away calling them organic if this is what they do unless those standards only apply to how it is grown and what poisons applied afterwards doesn't factor in. The link below doesn't work. > What you may not know and should know is the following: once the carrots are cut and > shaped into cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to > preserve them (this is the same chlorine used your pool) since they do not have their skin > or natural protective covering, they give them a higher dose of chlorine. Guest guest
Well, I called Earthbound Organic Farm. That is the brand my Co-op carries and they DO use the chlorine dip - grrrrrr. She said that what is left on the carrot is 4ppm which is equivalent to what is in our tap water. I told her I could not believe they could label them organic after doing this but she said it is for safety reasons and it is allowed according to the EPA. I will now unlazy myself and peel the dang things. It makes me sick thinking how many of these my kids have eaten......
