It is characterized by tender, subcutaneous, erythematous nodules usually located on the anterior surface of the legs and occasionally elsewhere (Figure 8). Histologic examination of a wedge-biopsy specimen of a suspected lesion reveals a septal panniculitis. Erythema nodosum caused by drugs is not distinguishable from that due to other factors.
