"You Can Heal Your Life" Written by Louise L. Hay "It's been 20 years since I published my book "You Can Heal Your Life", and no one is more surprised by that longevity than I am. During this time, You Can Heal Your Life has been translated into 29 different languages, is available in more than 35 different countries, and has now sold more than 30 million copies throughout the world. "When I first wrote this book, my original dream was to go beyond the students in my workshops and help as many people as possible to change their lives for the better. Little did I know how the Universe would fulfill this dream or that so many people would respond to this book. "From the moment You Can Heal Your Life was written, it seems that Life has said, "This book must go out; it must be available worldwide." I think that its success is due to the fact that I have the ability to help

people change and learn to love themselves without laying guilt on them. I also believe that the simplicity of the message helps it successfully resonate with many different cultures. "At a recent BookExpo America show, I met a man who told me that I'm a bestselling author in his bookstore in Kathmandu, Nepal. I keep his business card on my desk as a reminder of the extraordinary connection that I have with people everywhere. I receive masses of mail (and e-mail) from all over the globe each month. Many of these letters are from young people who find my message just as relevant and healing as those who first read it 20 years ago. "Life goes in cycles. There's a time to do something, and then there's a time to move on. For the past ten years, I've had the pleasure of spending much of my time in my garden creating compost and feeding the Earth. Spectacular flowers and fruits grow in really healthy soil. I've also

grown most of the food that I've eaten. I just moved into a new condominium with a terrace, so now my gardening will be different, yet I'll still keep my hands in the soil. Painting has been on my wish list for a long time, and I've dabbled a bit over the years and taken a few classes. "A couple of years ago, I came across a wonderful art teacher who accepted me as her only student. To my amazement, we have similar names! Lynn Hays has stretched me far beyond what I thought I was capable of painting, and she won't allow me to paint anything small. I'm doing oils on a large scale these days and feeling very fulfilled. "In the early days, there were few people doing the kind of work I was doing, and I felt the need to be everywhere, teaching constantly. Now, these are so many good teachers out these that I no longer feel the pressure to PERSONALLY rescue everyone. I've written more than 20 books and numerous

audios and videos, and my advice columns "Ask Louise" and "Dear Louise" appear in more than 50 different New Age publications (as well as in my own bimonthly newsletter). There's plenty of material for people to study, so I've cut down my speaking schedule to almost nothing, and I work behind the scenes now supporting new authors and talented teachers. "I'm blessed to have excellent people running my publishing company, Hay House, for me. Reid , president and CEO; and Ron Tillinghast, vice president, are both invaluable to me, as is , my personal assistant. I love all of the people who work in editorial, the art department, publicity, customer service, marketing, sales, accounting, and the warehouse. Each of them makes up the wonderful mix of the Hay House family that makes us all so successful. I believe that we'll continue for a long time to bring our brand of information to the world, blessing and prospering all those

we touch. "When I wrote You Can Heal Your Life, I decided to self-publish my book, since I believed that no other company would have published it because its content was considered so radical then. At that time, there wasn't even a self-help section in the bookstore -- today, more than half of the NEW YORK TIMES bestsellers are self-help books! How the consciousness of people has changed! It feels good to know that I was one of the early pioneers spreading the message that we all do have the ability to improve the quality of our lives. "I couldn't have dreamed that so many people would want to read my book, until I was up to my ears in orders, which I filled in the bedroom of my home! It soon became clear that it was time to start my own company. Since it all started in my house, it was only natural to name it: Hay House. "Hay House has since grown to be one of the world's top

publishers in the self-help, mind/body, and spiritual field. In fact, we now have offices in Sydney, Australia; London, England; Johannesburg, South Africa; Vancouver, Canada; Auckland, New Zealand, and Mumbai, India. These changes were beyond my wildest dreams. In the beginning, all I wanted to do was help people I couldn't see personally. I truly believe that the growth of Hay House was supervised by the Universe itself. When we choose a new book to publish, it's always something that helps others improve the quality of their lives. "An astrologer once told me that when I was born, these was a configuration in my chart that showed me helping many, many people on a one-to-one basis. It's too bad that tape recorders hadn't been invented at the time, so I could have further interpreted this information. Today, thanks to the miracle of technology, the sound of my voice is available on CD, and accompanies thousands of people to bed each night.

My voice can put anyone to sleep. As a result, many people whom I've never met feel that they know me because we spend so many intimate moments together. One of the wonderful things about what I do is that it gives me the opportunity to be greeted with love almost everywhere I go. People feel that I'm an old friend who has helped them through many a sticky moment. "No matter what age we are, we can always let go of a little more garbage and break a new barrier. Let me share my latest breakthrough with you. When I was 76, I decided to do something I'd never done before because I was always afraid to. I decided to take up ballroom dancing. I'd wanted to dance since I was a child, but could never get up the courage. For many years I'd said, "In the next lifetime, I'll be a dancer. It's too late to do it now," Talk about a negative affirmation! "Then one day last fall, I passed a dance studio and their sign read,

"We teach you to dance one step at a time," And I thought, ONE STEP AT A TIME; MAYBE I COULD DO THAT. My next thought was, I'm going to live quite a few more years, why am I waiting for the next lifetime? And so a new era began for me. "The initial two months were absolute hell. I dreaded the first lesson, which took place on a Wednesday afternoon, but I knew I had to go through with it, I think I held my breath the entire time, Every little-kid piece of baggage that I had left in me came up in my body ---- embarrassment, humiliation, and shame flooded through me. I couldn't even FIND an affirmation. "One day, a teacher at the studio said, "Louise, I can just see the fear in your eyes. Where does it come from?" I couldn't respond. Later that night when I really thought about it, I found that there was a part of me that was convinced I would be hit in the face if I did it "wrong." That was a real

revelation to me. The little kid inside of me was terrified of being slapped, and I was 76 years old! "At the next lesson when I told the teacher my answer, her eyes filled with tears. That was the breakthrough for me. All those feelings began to subside, and I could concentrate on my steps. It's now almost 4 years later and I take three private lessons a week and four group lessons. It has even become fun for me. So, my dears, if I can do it, so can you. It's never too late to learn something new." Copyright 2006. Hay House, Inc. The LOUISE HAY Newsletter (Premier Issue) No. 1.
