Hello Everyone:

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday...

HELP!!!

I am being told that we re allowed to Mark up our cost for organs. Is this true? Contracting is stating that since Gift of Life increase the standard acquisition charge for Liver/Kidney, etc..then we should be able to mark up appropriately.

any help is appreciate.

Hi Michele,

There is not a “mark up”

in the classic sense. If the staff that prepare the cost report would

give you the average cost for a transplanted organ from the appropriate Worksheet

D-6, Part III, Line 53 divided by Line 54, that would be the absolute least

amount that should be charged. This is the Cost Base to establish the

charge and NOT the amount billed by the OPO to the hospital. If there are

percentage of charges contracts in place, that cost would have to be grossed up

so that when the discount is applied it would not discount into cost.
