Guest guest
Hi everyone. I have my son's (2.10) first IEP next week, and was wondering if anyone has any last minute advice on how to support in- home ABA/VB programs using research such as LOVAAS, etc. My advocate thinks we should just go on our personal data from our program and not mention the research on ABA. I feel that ABA/VB is the only scientifically proven method to effectively teach autistic children, and the school has NO research/data at all to provide me on the effectiveness of their program. If anyone has a list of articles relevant to the effectiveness of ABA, I would be very appreciative! Please e-mail me @ scarboro@... . Thanks! Guest guest
Shauna, Contact MOFEAT, I think there was an assistive tech conference in may, Mofeat may have info on the next one or info from the last one. Something that I picked up on at an autism conference this weekend is about handwriting, this particular talk was given by a teacher at giant steps, and she was showing some work they have some 15 year olds do and they work on all levels of handwriting. For example, they have a tracer line for their cursive for their name, but they were typing (on a regular computer) some answers and there were pages they required printing. Cursive, because it is age appropriate, print because it is needed for job applications and typing because so much is typing. Something else that is helping me form ideas for accommodations for our upcoming 504 (we just had our dd’s iep last week) is a site www.pacer.org there is a search engine on that site. It is another state, but it has a lot of ideas. He has an IEP coming up next week. It is on Friday. He is 10. He is very smart but needs help with the executive functioning and with organization and writing and understanding his reading and inferences. Does someone have an example of a present level and goals for a 10 year old high functioning child with Asperger's Syndrome? He may even have Mild Traumatic Brain Injury. I am most interested in the accommodations and how I can get a general education teacher and the administration to use all the wonderful technology that is available. Are there any seminars that teach our educators on the technology for AS kids? Shauna Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
HI, Oh yeah! It was so nice to see you again at the house. I did not know that was you as I did not have your e mail address. Neat to see another mom from St. Louis on the AspergerSupport group. We also had a mom's group last Sat. It went well. If you want, I can send you what we are trying to do for our kids. I will have it together next week. Also, if you give me your address, school district, phone no, likes and dislikes of Adam, successes and challenges of Adam, I can add you to the list if you want. No pressure here though - just if you want to. Shaunagenasu <genasu@...> wrote: I am in St. . I am planning on coming to the next meetup. Adam and I had such a good time with you all the last time.
